Kids in the Kitchen: Easy French Crepes

The next recipe Faith chose was from our Williams-Sonoma The Cookbook for Kids.  She wanted to make crepes.  I had never made crepes!  They looked delicious in the picture and Faith wanted to make those next.  I’m not sure it was the best decision, as it took her…three whole hours to make them!  We were… [continue reading]

How To Choose A Husband

When my eldest daughter Faith was only six she asked me, “Mom what do you want to be when you’re forty-eight?” Without putting much thought into it, obviously, I said, “Well, maybe when I’m forty-eight you’ll be married and have a baby.” Silence.  Finally she said, “Mom, who will I marry?” “I don’t know honey.”… [continue reading]

Kids in the Kitchen: French Toast

I really appreciated so many of your comments and suggestions as to how to get my daughter Faith to begin cooking on her own.   I spent some time searching for a children’s cookbook.  I didn’t want one that used many mixes.   I rarely use them at home, and I want her to learn how to… [continue reading]

Mommy and Me Date with Joy

Joy started out the AWANA year with half of last year’s book to complete.  I kept thinking that my kids would be self-motivated to work on their verses without me having to push them to do it.  There are plenty of incentives worked into the AWANA program after all, but it just didn’t happen.  So… [continue reading]

Sparkie Regatta 2011

The Sparkie Regatta is a boat race put on by the AWANA clubs.  Each child with the help of their father or another adult is to construct and decorate a boat for the race.  This was Joy’s second year to participate.  She was so excited and reminded her dad endlessly of the need to work… [continue reading]

Beginning Faith in the Kitchen

My eldest daughter Faith will be ten this summer and I realized that she still is not cooking anything on her own yet.  I am on a mission to get her cooking.  I have decided to have her cook or bake something once a week until she begins to feel more comfortable in the kitchen. … [continue reading]

Grand Prix Race 2011

This year’s Grand Prix race went much better than last year!   This picture was taken right after she won her first heat.  She was so excited.  After that she took mostly second places but it was enough to get her into the semi-finals. Her car is the red lightening.  She didn’t fair as well in… [continue reading]

The Birds and the Bees

My mom Frieda is guest posting for me today.  Here is a little tale about yours truly: I hear the phone ring in the English department at Pan American University, where I work.  Someone says, “Frieda, your daughter is on the phone.” It is Esther, my first-grader.  She asks, “Mom, how does the daddy cat… [continue reading]

Everyone Makes Mistakes

Faith, age nine, was playing at the house of a friend with a little three-year -old girl.  She was being a big help because this little girl was a live wire!  Faith let her play with her new little Webkinz.  Her only Webkinz.  The tag was still attached with the very important code that allows… [continue reading]

Funny Kids Quotes #9

The girls were asking me how old I am…again!  Why is that one of their favorite subjects?  Faith actually had me a year older than I am–lovely! The next thing I heard was Faith saying, “Mom, I wish the baby didn’t die.”  Sometimes I forget that they went through a loss too. I’m not sure… [continue reading]
