12 Places to Eat in Kansas City, Kansas

Oh how well you will eat in Kansas City, Kansas! I enjoyed a tasting of scrumptious eats around the city as a part of a familiarization tour with Visit Kansas City. All opinions are my own, no matter how many times I use the word amazing. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Come along with me and explore these 12 places to eat in Kansas City, Kansas!

Barbecue

The first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions Kansas City and food together is Barbecue. It is so fitting that this is how our tasting of Kansas City began, with a variety of delicious barbecue from distinguished restaurants around Kansas City.  Our barbecue buffet was served on the beautiful grounds of Chateau Avalon! (If you are looking for a fun couples getaway, girls night, or mother/daughter time Chateau Avalon is a one of a kind themed boutique hotel experience.)

The array of Barbecue was fantastic with specialty meats, sides, and BBQ sauce from these restaurants famous for their mouthwatering barbecue including:

  • Joe’s Kansas City Bar-be-que

  • Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque

  • Woodyard Bar-be-que

  • Gates Bar-B-Q

  • Slaps BBQ

You will not go wrong with any of the above mentioned BBQ joints, but the Burnt Ends at Slaps BBQ were my number one choice. I enjoyed Slaps so much I already told you all about it. See more here>>> Slaps BBQ.

MeMa’s Old Fashioned Bakery

Find great food done the old fashioned way, from scratch! Known for their Povitica Bread, Cinnamon Rolls, and Apple strudel you will want to try a little of everything. See my full article here>>> MeMa’s Bakery

Krizman’s House of Sausage

Family owned since 1939 Krizman’s House of Sausage has been a tradition for many generations. Though Krizman’s  began as a mom and pop style grocery store, what brought lines of people to the store was their amazing sausages and Krizman’s Sausage was born. Krizman’s supply wholesale to restaurants in the area.

But you can still come by their store in Strawberry Hill to purchase sausage, sauerkraut, and more. I am a lover of sausage and sauerkraut and these were little bites of heaven. I even tried…blood sausage! It wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’m proud of myself for trying it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

El Camino Real

If you’re looking for authentic Mexican tacos in Kansas City, Kansas look no farther than El Camino Real!

When I lived in Mexico my friend’s family operated a tortilla factory out of their home. How I love the smell of fresh corn tortillas being made. Watching these tortillas being made fresh right in front of the restaurant took me back!

You won’t find tacos doused in cheese, sour cream, and lettuce, no Tex-Mex tacos here. These are the real deal!

1889 Pizza Napoletana

My favorite foodie experience was a pizza class at 1889 Pizza Napoletana! Now I love pizza as much as most Americans, so I knew this would be fun, but I was completely blown away. I learned so much about the Neapolitan Pizza. Making it was a blast, and eating it was of course the best part! Take the family and try to make it to a class if you can, but the food at 1889 Pizza Napoletana will not disappoint. More on our experience here>>> 1889 Pizza Napoletana Pizza Class

Turn 2 Sports Bar & Restaurant

Turn 2 Sports Bar is located in the upper level of Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway. Even if you don’t gamble (I don’t either.) take the time to see some of the interesting museum worthy items displayed such as the dress Judy Garland wore in The Wizard of Oz and a replica of her ruby sippers!

Dining outside overlooking Kansas Speedway at sunset was such a beautiful, romantic experience. I had the opportunity to sample many items from the Turn 2 menu. Everything was incredible. I love appetizers, and I had my fill of wings, nachos, quesadillas, spinach artichoke dip and more. It was all fantastic! The one item however you must not leave Turn 2 without trying is the Boerger’s Burger. Served with lettuce, tomato, fried pickles, bacon, caramelized onions, bourbon barbecue sauce, candied jalapenos, and (wait for it) FRIED CHEDDAR CHEESE! You have to try this!

Kansas City Steak Company Store

At the end of the day you’re going to want some Kansas City food waiting for you when you get home! Stop in the Kansas City Steak Company Store to purchase or order your KC steaks. Growing up in Oklahoma, my father always remembered Kansas City as the place to get a great steak. I love that you can order and have Kansas City steaks sent to your home!

Original Juan’s Specialty Foods Factory Outlet

Creating specialty sauces, salsas, snacks, dips and more, Original Juan’s is a fun place to stop and stock up on all your favorite Kansas City barbecue sauces. Their products have been sold wholesale, retail, and private label since 1998. It is the largest bottling company in the Midwest!

Why, yes, I did! I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try The Source Hot Sauce. It claims to be the hottest hot sauce, and I had to sign a waiver to try it. Using a toothpick and placing a dot of the sauce on the tongue is all one can handle. I survived! Will you? ๐Ÿ˜‰

My favourite thing to do when exploring new cities is trying out local restaurants. 1889 Pizza Napoletana sounds like a place I would adore, having had real neapolitan pizza in Naples!
