MeMa’s Old-Fashioned Bakery

My visit to MeMa’s Old-Fashioned Bakery was part of a familiarization trip with Visit Kansas City, Kansas. All opinions are my own.

Whenever I hear the words “old-fashioned” together with food, I think to myself, “This is going to be good!” and I’m usually right. Time. So often time is the key. In our fast paced lives, (and hey, I’m no exception) we tend to find short cuts to making things until they no longer have that amazing flavor of the original. I grew up on food made from scratch, the old fashioned way. It’s the best. While I love to cook, I don’t always have or take the time to make foods from scratch. When time is the issue, find someone who makes it right and buy it! Whether I’m traveling or just busy at home, there are so many options, like MeMa’s Bakery in Kansas City, Kansas!

There are 3 things you absolutely must try at MeMa’s Bakery!

1. Povitica Bread

Have you ever had Povitica Bread? Oh my goodness. It’s incredible! Povitica is a Croatian nut roll pastry made from a sweet yeast dough that is rolled out very thin, spread with a nut paste made from ground nuts and something sweet like honey, then rolled up into a log shape.  Loraine Waldeck, founder of MeMa’s, learned to make Povitica from a Croatian family member. You know it’s made right!

2. Cinnamon Rolls

MeMa’s Famous Cinnamon Rolls are a must try! Who doesn’t love cinnamon rolls? Before I tried MeMa’s I thought, of course they would be good, but would they stand out? Why are they famous? Y’all, I’m sold. When I tasted them, I knew there had to be a secret ingredient. When I asked Lorraine, she just laughed. These cinnamon rolls are featured on Chateau Avalon’s breakfast menu. Guests find themselves at MeMa’s Bakery in search of more!

3. Apple Strudel

MeMa’s Apple Strudel is like no other. Fruity pastries are not my first love, but wow these are so good! MeMa’s is an authentic German strudel that is hearty in both flavor and texture, so many layers of deliciousness!

There are so many delectable treats to try!

Prefer savory? No problem! MeMa’s also has an array of savory breakfast dishes like burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and biscuits and gravy.

Any time you stop in you are sure to find great food done the old fashioned way, from scratch!

Can’t wait until your next trip to Kansas City, Kansas? No problem! Order your MeMa’s pastries today!
