Tomato Soup

Do your kids cook? I confess; I do most of the cooking around here mostly because I really enjoy doing it. I do, however try to get the kids helping in the kitchen on purpose. Here is a super easy kid friendly Tomato Soup recipe, that we found in the Southern Living Kids Cookbook and adapted for our family.

The first time I made this was when I had just begun to teach Faith to cook.  One of my goals with all my kiddos to get them to the point where they feel comfortable making two or three meals for the family completely by themselves.  After that I feel like they can expand if they want to or when they need to. Grilled cheese sandwiches, also an easy beginner recipe, pair nicely with Tomato Soup.

Ingredients:

2 (10 ½ ounce) cans condensed tomato soup
2 (14 ½ ounce) cans petite diced tomatoes
1 cup half-and-half

Mix all the ingredients together in a dutch oven or three quart soup/sauce pot.  Cook over medium low heat stirring constantly until soup is hot.  Enjoy!

Look! I even have a photo of her first time making this. Sniff. Now she is Off to College! This Tomato Soup recipe was a great confidence builder for my beginner cook and a yummy dinner for a chilly fall evening.  Oh how I’m loving cooking all the soups I can think of in this chilly homey house! Looks good, even though it isn’t cold where I am.

This looks amazing! I have not had tomato soup in a very long time. When I buy it though, it’s usually the low sodium. Thanks for the recipe. 🙂

You are doing right by your girl in prepping her with a lifeskill like cooking. Its sad how many wives I know who don’t know/won’t cook for their families. The soup looks and sounds yummy! 🙂

Greetings! Been a while since I’ve visited here. I’m back in school and blogging is waaaaaayyyyy down. I’ve recently been visited some blogs I used to regularly read and several of them have closed down. Glad you are still writing.

This recipe does look easy and good. I look for easy recipes to fix for Cheryl. This one is going on my list! Thanks.

Your second daughter often makes tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for us. However, we have just had the can of soulp-can of milk version. I’ll have to order the ingredients for the fancy version.
