Yep that’s right. We put up a Valentine tree. This tradition began in 2006. We had just moved to the DFW area November 1st–just in time to not be prepared for the holidays.
The first two months we lived here we were either traveling or had overnight guests every weekend except two! It was busy, but I was also thankful because amid the sickness, a house in boxes, two kids adjusting to everything, and Jason’s stress over starting a new job, I always had something to look forward to.
Since our lives were so crazy, my Christmas decorations were limited to a beautiful wreath from my brother’s family that we placed over the fireplace, and various gifts we had received and placed on the mantle. It was around this time that Faith asked me, “Mom it looks like Christmas, but where is the tree?” And then for several days in a row she would ask, “Are we going to put our tree up today?” Well, I had neither the time, nor the energy, nor would we be around to enjoy it, so I never gave in to putting up the tree, but it did give me a great idea. After Christmas when all the trees were discounted I found a beautiful white tree and February 1st we decorated our first Valentine tree!
My poor little boy was sick. I had to bribe him with chocolate to get the pictures.
Don’t think this is only for girls. My little boy had the BEST time decorating the tree and first thing every morning he is the one that pesters me until I plug the tree in!

Aren’t they so cute! A Valentine’s tree is so fun. I hope he feels better.
Bonus! And most people won’t think you’re strange at all! Here I’ve been celebrating “anti-Valentine’s day” for the last several years… We do invites with a little cupid who’s been shot in the back and everything… Ha ha ha… Each to his / her own…
That is seriously a beautiful tree!! What a gorgeous idea!
When I saw this in my little box on my blog dashboard, my first thought was “You have a wonderful, hilarious family!” 🙂 I don’t know anybody who has done this before!!
Enjoy and thank you for the smile!:)
This is such a great idea, Esther. Love the white tree with the colorful Valentine decorations. Very pretty!
Cute. Everyone loves decorating a tree!
LOVE the white Valentine’s tree! Such a lovely idea especially if you find chocolates under it on Valentine’s day 🙂
Awww, what a great idea 🙂 I love it! Your little darlings are precious!!! I think your youngest girl looks a lot like my Isabelle with dark hair! Love the t-shirts too… did you make them?
I think that is wonderful! I am loving your white tree, I have always wanted one 🙂 I have a little pink tinsel one, I might have to do this too!
Such a great idea, I love this!!!!!
Beautiful post. Our family hasn’t had a tree in a while. We used to do Christmas in July, though, because of several personal issues that kept coming up in winter.
Your children are absolutely gorgeous and hooray to you for grabbing an opportunity to show your children that life doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s! I’m all for living outside of the box!
Love this idea–so fun! My kids would love it too–thanks for the idea.
Oh, how cuuute, Esther! This idea is just so sweet! Your kids are just beautiful. Hope the little man feels better soon! Y’all take care and be blessed always!
This tradition is such fun! I love the whole idea of having the house decorated for Valentine’s Day. It is great to have something to look forward to after Christmas.
Stopping from Mom Loop! I hope you will stop by and visit me too.
WOW!!! That tree took my breath way. It’s beautiful. And a great idea.
Whata cute idea. I’ll have to mention this to my 11yr old. He LOVES decorating for any and every holiday and conned hubs into getting him a 6ft tree made of white lights. It sits in a box in the corner most of the year. This gives me some idea to keep him busy next snow pass.
Just popping by from momLoop…
Happy to come accross your blog. What a fun tradition. We have three girls and one boy too! Fun!
