When I began my blog it was with the hope that eventually it would generate a little fun money that I could enjoy with the family. My husband is very frugal and only rarely deems any kind of entertainment worthy of the cost. That is why I am ever looking for free or cheap things to do with the kids or to take them to! Being the one at home schooling the kids all day, there are times that I just long to get out and do something. My husband, on the other hand, is gone most of the day, so when he gets home he doesn’t want to go anywhere. You can see my dilemma. When I began my blog, he promised that should I ever earn money with it, I could use the money to do fun things.
The kids have fun keeping up with how much we are making and how much we have to spend. It’s for all of us. They are after all a huge part of this little blog of mine! August was the first month that we made enough money to spend.
First of all, I want to teach my kids how important it is to give, so from what we receive we are taking a portion to give back to God, who is the giver of all blessings. Then we are taking a portion to put into savings for something big like a trip to Disney World which we would otherwise be unable to afford—we haven’t decided exactly what we will use it for yet. I guess it depends on how much we save. Finally, we are taking a portion to spend each month on something fun.
We had talked a lot about how we would spend our August money, but we hadn’t decided. Then one day after I spent all morning schooling the kids…how we spent our August money. 🙂

girl, i dont know how you find the time to do what you do… FIVE kids, and homeschool, and daily blogging, and the house, and the hubby… wow, im worn out just typing it!! way to go on making money for some family fun! (and proud of you for teaching the importance of giving back to the Lord!)cant wait to hear what y’all are gonna do…
The kids will remember the togetherness of making the decisions and doing things. Sounds like a good idea. Probably also makes them more willing to cooperate for you to spend time writing.
Wow! Sounds just like our marriage- hubby is out all day, I’m in all day. But these days, he’s home around 10 or later sometimes, so by that time I don’t want to do anything. (I think he likes it that way!) Can’t wait to see what fun you’ve had w/your earnings. 🙂
familiar story same ending except that I don’t have any revenue generating portions of my blog! I do work a few nights a week waiting tables but I use that to pay bills! Good luck with that!
Wow, that’s awesome! I’m trying to do the same thing, but our money is going to fund our adoption as we rescue two kids from Ukraine and get the amazing blessing of adding them to our family. Any wisdom to share? Love it!
I think it’s great that you’re earning money from your blog! If I ever wanted to do that I’d have to blog a lot more than I do now, lol (plus with better content, haha!).
I have just never wanted to bother with all that trouble (assuming it’s a lot of work) but if I ever do I know who to come to for advice! Thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday.
Sounds like us! 🙂 Hoping to be able to do that someday, too.
great post! sent you an email 🙂 happy day to you! Annette
Hi!
I read your post linked with Women Living Well today :). This may be a completely tacky question, but here goes…
I am a stay at home mom, my husband is an associate pastor…anyway, I blog
because it is relaxing, and have not had a penny of success with my attempt at earning through amazon on my blog (laughing).
How have you successfully monetized your blog? ok, happy day to you!
Annette
Nice post Esther. My hubby is the same way. So I try to save every penny every way I can to do the fun stuff!
Have a great day!
Shari
I would LOVE to learn more about how you actually make money with blogging. It would be so helpful for me to notch my blog up some to make more than pennies from it. Any tried and true advice, resources, etc you’d be willing to share are so welcome!
