This is our annual tradition, usually right around December 1st.
Our day began with none other than Krispy Kreme snowman donuts.
Then the kids watched Christmas cartoons while I took all of my Christmas things out of hiding and worked on our party food. The variety was decidedly less than usual, but it was all foods the kids love so I don’t think they noticed.
I usually prepare finger foods for this day, but did something a little different this year.
The menu:
Cheesy Potato Soup
Creamy Jello Salad
Pudding
Fudge
Sparkling Apple Cider
This tradition started before we had children. I figured that if I made lots of food and called it a party then maybe Jason wouldn’t mind putting the tree up for me…and I really did want it to be a family affair! 😉
This was one very excited little boy. He loved the “ismas twee.”
We usually have a bag for them to open that contains Christmas themed items–almost always including pajamas. Our tree is not a beautiful themed creation, but a hodgepodge of all our little ornaments we’ve collected–and we love it!
Then we end the day in our Christmas PJ’s, on the couch together watching a new Christmas movie. This year was the Veggie Tale’s movie, “It’s a Meaningful Life.”
Merry Christmas!

Sounds like a wonderful day! Your tree looks beautiful and the kiddos look like they had a blast!
“ismas twee”… adorable!
Let’s look fun… Looks like an amazing way to keep the kids busy …
I love love love this tradition!! I hope you don’t mind if I start to copy you! LOL! My son is only one now, but next year I want to start some fun family traditions. What’s better than yummy food (I LOVE POTATOE SOUP!!.. and FUDGE YUM!), decorating the tree, and Christmas PJ’s!!!!!! Love it!!
What a beautiful memory you created for your children! I love it when parents make things special “just” for their own family. That was not done much when I was growing up . . .
The best kind of trees are the ones that are decorated by a family with a hodgepodge of ornaments! What a wonderful tradition you and your family have!! Our tree was always pretty wild too… my old binky was an ornament!
Krispy Kreme has snowman donuts?!?! I feel jipped for all these years I didn’t know that!
Hi! I love your daughters bed head hair style above. I take pictures of my son all the time with hair like that.
I featured you on my blog… check it out http://www.believingboldly.com/
Your family looks very happy:)
They look so sweet in their PJ’s, I love christmas PJ’s! and I totally want that donut now!
So fun! What a great family tradition.
I love this idea. It really looks like a wonderful party.
I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough to decorate the tree with us! This year we did it while she was sleeping, but I think maybe next year she can help with a few things towards the bottom. We do Christmas pjs every year too, it’s one of our favorite Christmas traditions 🙂
Stopping by from the Blog Frog discussion.
Awwwww… I love this post. Family time is the best. I love it when my family is all together and able to hang out…
Aww! What great family memories! I LOVE the ripped knee jeans on your girls. It’s one of the most adorable things about kids clothes, I think! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I love your Christmas pictures. Our preschool is doing a shop-n-drop fundraiser. to raise funds for a new playground (it is a holiday drop-in childcare for families). I am in charge of creating a poster to advertise the event. Would you mind if I use your children’s photos? They are adorable. It’s for Construction Kids Preschool at Open Door Baptist Church, in Raleigh NC.
