My blogger friend Robin has inspired me to look for the humor in bathrooms with his many postings on the subject, not least of which is Top 10 Worst Bathroom Experiences. While none of these even come close to his experiences, here are some bathroom features that I found amusing in my travels in Peru.
This was my hotel bathroom. The first thing I noticed was the big flush and little flush buttons, but I had seen those before. Do you notice anything out of the ordinary? My husband didn’t at first. Well, I don’t know about you, but I have never seen a bathroom with a phone hung by the toilet. I suppose it might be convenient but…nah I’d rather not talk in the bathroom thank you very much!
The main thing I noticed in public bathrooms was the lack of toilet paper, but the OCC staff came prepared thankfully, and we handed off rolls as needed. Here we were at a mall area and not close to the bus that contained all of our necessities. Would the bathroom have toilet paper we wondered. Sure enough it did. There was this one community roll hung on the wall in front of the row stalls. Hey, whatever works! I was thankful!
And this was my favorite. I’d never seen anything like it. Yes that’s right. Just above the toilet is the most gorgeous view of the ocean.
There were two stalls in this bathroom, and I thought the other stall contained two of my team mates who I assumed were taking pictures as I heard giggling coming from the stall. “What are ya’ll doing in there?” I shouted only to realize there weren’t any from my team in there! I got to laughing and couldn’t stop. By then there was a line waiting for the stall so I hurriedly and with much shaking because of my laughter clicked a photo. As you can see it’s not the best shot, but there you have it. A (bath) room with a view!

Too funny! The community roll is ridiculous! What if you need more? Then you hop over there, dripping poop???
LOVE it!! Community toilet paper? Oh brother..we are spoiled in America..LOL
When we were first married we baby sat the house of some rich people that had a phone in every room including the bathroom. Of course that was before wireless phones and way before cell phones. I was really impressed. At least you wouldn’t miss an important call that way. I love hearing about your experiences in Peru
By the way, if you remember, at the market across the border, they charge you a peso for about five squares of paper as you enter.
Haha….I’d probably carry a roll of TP in my purse just to be safe = )
My husband used a bathroom with a view once while on a missions trip to Guatemala ~ it was a doorless outhouse perched on the side of a cliff on a mountain. He said the view was breathtaking (along with the odor)!!!
Yep, when travelling in the “non-first-world” we always carry our own TP. Love that toilet with a view. What a pity it’s behind the person using it – kind of defeats the purpose, I’d say … Thanks for the shout out – I hope you find some more “scary” bathrooms to write about!
Haha- that is too funny! That is a great view though!
Ok that was interesting lol 🙂
