Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster at SeaWorld Texas!

Great new things are happening at SeaWorld Texas! I’m thrilled to be able to give you a behind the scenes look at Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster. Many thanks to SeaWorld for inviting our family to the event and hosting us for a day.

Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster at SeaWorld Texas is the first coaster of its kind in North America!  Riders race across the surface of the water on a jet-ski style car. Don’t worry. You won’t get wet. This is not a water ride. Wave Breaker combines the thrill of a coaster with the excitement of a marine animal rescue mission. Now you can feel what it’s like to race alongside the SeaWorld animal care team and learn the stories from some of the 30,000 animal rescues over the past 50 years…and have a blast while doing it!

As a roller coaster rider I am not into the extreme thrills like I used to be. To ride or not to ride I wondered. Would it be for me? Yes! I’m so glad I jumped on!

THIS is the Wave Breaker experience. Check out the video for a first hand look of yours truly (blush) on my first ride. I did get to rescue a sea turtle! Oh and you’ll have to pardon the screaming. I HAVE to scream on roller coasters. 🙂

Wave Breaker is considered a family roller coaster and what I like to call mid thrill. It is super fun and exciting, but I don’t feel like my life is about to end. Ha ha! My high thrill coaster lovers enjoyed the ride too. I love that it’s super smooth and doesn’t jerk you around.. The lean forward jet ski style seat has you leaning into the ride and not slamming you into the back of the seat. I’m all for a roller coaster with no pain!
After our exclusive ride time we had the chance to chat with Mike Denninger a mechanical engineer who worked on Wave Breaker who said they worked closely with rescuers to give the ride an authentic feel.

We were also able to visit with Jon Peterson and Lara Croft–real animal rescuers on call. Jon from the show Sea Rescue says Wave Breaker is exactly what if feels like to shoot out on a mission then slow down as they are looking with highs and lows. What a fantastic time we had riding and learning about what went into the making of Wave Breaker!

My youngest was not quite the 48 inches needed to be able to ride Wave Breaker, but that was ok with him as long as he got to ride Shamu!

In fact he insisted on riding it by himself. Sniff. This is probably the last season that he will be this thrilled to ride Shamu. He is growing up so fast. Enjoy some clips from our day at SeaWorld!

Then…everyone enjoys being a VIP! We had so much fun at the Wave Breaker VIP party. SeaWorld threw an amazing party to celebrate the launch of Wave Breaker.

The kids were able to play games and win prizes. It was a fabulous ending to this exciting day.

Wave Breaker is now open! It’s your turn to set out on an animal rescue!
