I have gotten to see my parents more than usual of late because of two funerals. My grandma passed away in July and my uncle passed away in August. In the midst of our sadness, we still managed to enjoy ourselves.
My mom is known for being frank. When I arrived at Grandma’s funeral, Mom was in the parking lot. I stepped out of my van after unloading all four kids to hear my mom say to my niece, “What on earth has she got on?” Apparently she had never seen leggings worn under a dress!
Just a few short weeks later, dressed for church, I walked into my eldest daughter’s room where my parents were still in bed. Mom looked at my outfit and said, “People wear the strangest things for pajamas these days!” Then turning to my six year old daughter asked, “Is that what you’re wearing to church?” My daughter, still in her cute little nightgown, looked very indignant and said, “NO, it has monkeys on it!”
We were sitting on the couch after a long day. My mom looked down at my feet and asked, “Did you paint your toenails that color,
or did you just drop something on them?” Hmm. Maybe it’s time for a new nail color!
The morning of my uncle’s funeral I, again all dressed, walked into the room where my parents were sleeping to retrieve my daughter’s clothes. Would you believe that my mom asked, “Is that a dress or a slip?” This time I think she realized it was my dress, before she actually asked me, but she knew I’d get a kick out of it so she asked me anyway. Oh, how I love my mom – she makes me laugh!
Here is another story about things my mom says to me. 🙂

Hahahaha She sure is very open about her opinions! xD
She sounds like my grandmother… She had a wicked sense of humour. That’s probably where you got your ability to laugh at life…
