Christmas the South Padre way, with lots and lots of sand! Don’t miss the Holiday Sand Castle Village at South Padre Island, Texas. The exhibit is located outside the South Padre Island Convention Center. The best part? It’s free!! It is open daily from 12:00 to 9:00 until January 2.

The intricate Holiday Sand Sculptures are built by obviously talented sand artists. I didn’t find names of the sculptors or the sculptures, but the kids and I had fun choosing the ones we liked the best.

We went right before dusk so that we could see the Christmas lights and enjoy the music. Incidentally, behind the convention center is also a great place to catch a beautiful South Padre sunset, and you won’t want to miss that!

One of my favorite times to travel is the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. There’s just nothing like a Christmas getaway to get me into the Christmas spirit.

This year I found an amazing deal on a condo, and we spent a whole glorious week on South Padre Island.

We kicked off our Christmas movie watching with The Chronicles of Narnia, soaked in some sun, played games, and just enjoyed being together without the zillion responsibilities awaiting us at home.

It really started to feel like Christmas though, when we visited the Holiday Sand Castle Village. It would only have been more perfect with a sculpture dedicated to the real meaning of Christmas. We absolutely loved visiting the South Padre Island Holiday Sand Castle Village.

Merry Christmas! Enjoy your holidays. For more great ideas of how to spend your time on South Padre see our Ultimate South Padre Island Family Getaway!
