Frustraded

September 14, 2010

From the back seat of the van my then five-year-old kept shouting, “Mama?”

I kept answering, “Yes?” over and over. Significantly frustrated (that’s a nice respectable sounding word) I said, “Baby, don’t say ‘mama’ anymore!”

There was a short pause, and then I heard a meek, “Esther?” A real mom would probably not have died laughing!

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I LOVE this one! My kids think it’s funny to call me by my name randomly now. Or after staying w/ grandma they think it’s hilarious to call me grandma. Maybe I shouldn’t play it up so much w/ the over-exaggerated “WHAT?!”. hehe

LOL, Both my kids try to call me by the first name at times. It is funny, I do laugh, but tell them to call me momma. Rodney on the other had gets called by his name as well at times and doesn’t like it at all.
It is funny to see just how a kid will try to get their parents attention.

Hi, Esther. I agree with Lynn. One must enjoy all these moments. I’m not saying I’d want our toddler to call my wife or me by our first name, and I totally get that laughing at it might encourage that behavior briefly… but probably any reaction to it would encourage it. I’d just enjoy the moment, then later I’d tell my baby girl to please call me “Daddy”. I hope when she’s 30 she still calls me “Daddy”. Is that silly? Another cute blog, Esther.

“A wise mom enjoys the moments.” I love that! I work at enjoying them, sometimes it just doesn’t come naturally!

    Oh, how funny!
My kids, which are all grown now, learned that when we were in McDonalds playground to NOT call me their typical ‘mama’, but would intentionally call me by my first name so I would actually respond!

My dad is a little hard of hearing so as a child I quickly learned that calling out dad really did no good so my little brother and I would call him George. My other 4 siblings would never do it and Dad always brags that my little brother and I are smarter for it…I am having so much fun cruising around your older posts tonight!
