Fall Fun Cakes

You know how I love holidays!  When I found out Cool Whip now had frosting, I HAD to try it.  I loaded the kids up in the van and went to Walmart.  We found the Cool Whip Frosting in the freezer section.

The kids and I argued discussed which flavor to frost our Halloween layer cake with and finally decided we just had to try all three vanilla, cream cheese, and chocolate.

To make our three layer cake we used one yellow cake mix, one chocolate cake mix, the vanilla and cream cheese #CoolWhipFrosting, and candy corn and sprinkles for decoration.  Prepare the yellow cake mix according to package directions.  Then divide batter equally into two bowls.  Mix 10 drops of yellow food coloring in the first one and 10 drops of red and 12 drops of yellow(or until desired color of orange) in the second one to make the orange batter.  Prepare the chocolate cake mix dividing the batter equally into two cake pans and bake the cakes.  When they are done let cool completely on a wire rack.  Carefully cut the tops off of the two bottom layers.  Frost and Decorate!

I hate to waste things and I’m always looking for ways to let the kids be creative so with the extra cake and cake tops from the layer cake, we had a decorate your own pumpkin party with the rest of the Cool Whip Frosting. I think they did a really great job!

“This is the best frosting ever…in the whole wide world!” said one of my kids as they enjoyed their cakes.  Regular frosting is so much heavier that they usually leave chunks of it on their plates and tell me it’s too sweet.  With the Cool Whip Frosting they licked the plates clean!
