Edible Putty Recipe

St Patrick's Day fun for kids with edible putty

If there is one thing my kids love to do it’s create in the kitchen. Oh well ok they love to do all kinds of things, but fun in the kitchen is way up high on the list!  Grace my nine year old asked me if she could cook with Bobby my four year old.  She said she had promised him.  Hmm.

Edible Putty fun for St Patrick's Day

Two little kids cooking in the kitchen doesn’t sound like a good idea, but Edible Putty is the perfect solution!  All they had to do was mix together three simple ingredients and then they could create fun shapes and eat them without ever actually “cooking” anything.  This was so much fun!

Three ingredient edible putty

What you need:

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • 3 tablespoons honey

(And various sprinkles to make and decorate fun shapes!)

Just measure the ingredients into a medium bowl and stir together until well mixed.  The kids had so much fun measuring and stirring. That’s what cooking is in their minds.

The putty will seem just a bit crumbly and that’s okay. Just grab a chunk and mold it together in your hand. You will see how quickly is forms into a ball and whatever shape you choose to make.

Kids activities for St Patrick's Day Edible Putty

Since it is March we had St. Patrick’s Day on the brain.  Being “Irish” and all we celebrate Irish Day as much as we can.

I was surprised how easily the kids put together and decorated these fun shapes. I love giving them materials and letting them create.

Bobby was very proud of his little kitty.

I think he took the idea from his Hello Kitty loving sister!

The kids each made a shape or two, decorated it, and then had fun eating it.  This is such a win for kids and moms!

Unused putty lasts about a week in the refrigerator in a sealed plastic bag.  Have fun creating!
