Creepy Middle-of-the-Night Experience

When Grace was just a baby, I got up to nurse her in the middle of the night and then got back in bed.  I didn’t feel sleepy, so I turned on the lamp beside the bed and decided to read.  I had only read a minute when I heard a familiar sound.  But it couldn’t be the garage door opening if we were all in bed . . . !

I shook Jason awake and told him I had just heard the garage door open.  He got right up, grabbed his gun, and left me there wondering if I’d ever see him again.  I waited.  I couldn’t hear anything.

Finally, curiosity got the better of me, and I tiptoed toward the garage.  Jason was standing there looking all around.  The light in the garage that only comes on when the garage door is used was on.  So what I heard had been someone closing the garage door.  We ran and checked on the children.  They were all safe in their beds.

It was raining that night, so after inspecting the floor and not finding any tracks, we thought whoever must have opened it didn’t walk in.  Jason said that the garage door opener had been missing from his car for some time.

So many things went through our minds.  Did someone come purposefully with mal-intent, but then seeing me turn the lights on, got scared and left?  Or did someone find the garage door opener and just happened to push it in the middle of the night?  Or did someone just randomly push their own garage door and it happened to be the same code as ours?

No matter what, I was completely creeped out.  We were in the process of moving and actually only had another week left in that house, so we just took some extra precautions and prayed extra hard until we moved!

My tip of the day?  Do not leave your garage door opener in your car, especially if you don’t park your car in the garage!  😉

I never thought about anyone stealing your opener out of your car. But wasn’t the car locked?

You seem to have several bizarre things happen to you – baby monitors with a different baby and mother’s voice on them, garage doors that open on their own. Your life is not dull!

Likely, someone in the neighborhood had an opener set to the same frequency as yours. When they opened/closed their garage, yours responded as well. Nonetheless, that would definitely creep me out.

I don’t think I could have slept after that! We keep the openers in the cars, but we do park in the garage. I never thought about someone stealing it :/

Girl, that is soooo scary! The good Lord was watching over you! We don’t even use our garage anymore. It’s the kids’ playroom now so no garage door openers.

I still say it would be fun to go down a random block and see how many doors my garage opener works on. >.> But then maybe I’d freak people out too much. This is the reason I probably never will fulfill my life long dream of opening a random person’s garage for absolutely no reason whatsoever! xP Oh well. Saves those poor people the worry. lol Thanks for sharing!!

The same thing happened to me when I first moved into my current home. Fortunately, I solved the mystery after a few frightening moments. I wasn’t in bed,and it didn’t take me long to collar the culprit. My garage door opener was on the couch, along with my purse. One of my cats decided to take a nap, and either stepped on the remote or lay on it while he was getting comfy and curled up, as cats do. I was relieved that the mystery was solved.
