My husband and I were strolling down the aisles of Central Market the other day enjoying the samples. We came to a lady promoting and giving out chips and salsa. “Sure, I’ll try it,” I told her. “Give me the medium.”
“What do you think?” she asked.
“This isn’t hot at all,” I told her. “Did you say this was popular here?”
“It’s the State Fair winner two years running.”
“Really? I don’t like it at all,” I said making a face.
“Oh well, thank you for being honest,” she said a little dejected.
“I was raised on Mexican salsa so I’m pretty particular,” was the last thing I said as we walked away.
As soon as we were a safe distance away, Jason said, “Esther, she was a VENDOR. She doesn’t work here. She probably invented the salsa herself!”

OH NO! I so appreciate your honesty & as a new momma, I’m learning a lot from your blog & experiences. Thanks Esther!
That’s funny….I’m stopping by from the Mom Loop. Looking forward to reading your stories.

LOL I can soooo see you saying that! That’s ok I can suffer from the same desease to. One thing I have learned in relationships there is blunt and there is tact and there is the classic no comment smile!
Stopping from Mom Loop! Sometimes the words just roll out of my mouth. The vendor probably thought you just needed more experience with her salsa.
Well, no one can say you don’t speak your mind! About salsa, anyway. Maybe you did her a favor — she probably needed more spices in that stuff. 🙂
Never know, maybe you helped her develop another brand or style of salsa… constructive criticism can be helpful. VIsiting from Mom Loop’s Follow Friday 🙂
lol. At least you explained the growing up in Mexico thing. hehe
You can be comforted that you’ll probably never see her again. If she just knew you, she’d know you wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings on purpose.
What? you were being honest. In Jersey, if you’re going to sell a product you need thick skin. People here (esp the northern part of state) pull no punches. I will make you an honorary Jersey Girl ; )
Awww. I know exactly how you feel! I say things like that ALL the time. She’s probably heard worse.
