This Texas family drove all the way to Minneapolis, Minnesota to see my brother Nathan, his wife Sara and daughter Margie. We hadn’t seen them in five years! We made the drive in two days, met the family at a hotel and visited for about a day. Only my brother’s youngest daughter was with them this time. I wish we could have seen everyone, but it was a sweet time.
We arrived in the evening and went out for dinner. The next morning we walked to a place to eat breakfast. My brother entertained the kids on the walk back to the hotel:
Skip to my Lou? I asked my daughter if she thought my brother was wierd like me. “No, he’s fun like you,” she answered. Aw, my heart still melts at those words, but I do think my brother and I share the same brand of “fun,” a family trait to be sure!
We emptied our hotel rooms and then drove to a gorgeous park on a lake to let the kids run and play. Three days of traveling must have just been too much for our three-year-old Little Jason, because he had melt down after melt down. At one point he decided he wanted on the rocking horse only to find a man and his son already on it. At first he tried to climb up on them any way. The man was nice and offered to let my boy join them. What he did next shocked all of us. He climbed back down, picked up some sand, and threw it at the kind man. My husband ran to intervene. As they walked away we heard the little boy with his daddy say, “I don’t think he got his nap today!”

How fun to see them again! I didn’t know you were going to be together or I would have told you to tell Sara “hi”. She was my boss at switchboard when I was a boy-crazy freshman at CBC. 🙂
Hi Gwen! I don’t remember the boy crazy part, just the sweet hard working dependable part!
That is quite a long road trip for just a day of visitting!!
Wish I’d known that you guys were in the area ~ did you go to the Mall of America while you were here?
I hope that Little Jason slept most of the way back home!!
