It’s Christmas time in Oklahoma City! My family had a blast visiting Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as a part of a familiarization trip with VisitOKC. As always all opinions are my own. You won’t want to miss these fun family Christmas events.
1. Lyric’s A Christmas Carol
Make plans to visit OKC even if just to see Lyric’s A Christmas Carol. It is that fantastic! I’ll be honest. I took a dead tired family of seven for this evening show, and my thought before it started was that half the family would be asleep by intermission. How wrong I was! Every single one of us were on the edge of our seats the entire show, even my five year old who exclaimed, “That was awesome,” when it was over. The characters, set, special effects, and music were so, so good! It’s just a great way to get into the true spirit of Christmas. Go see it!
2. Saturdays with Santa at Devon Energy
FREE: On Saturdays in December before Christmas from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Bring your family to Devon Energy Center 333 W. Sheridan Ave Oklahoma City, OK for free family Christmas activities. You can even park for free in the Devon Energy garage, just tell them your there for, “Saturdays with Santa!”
Register to have your child meet Santa for FREE when you first arrive, and then enjoy the Christmas activities while you wait. There is so much to do there!
There are lots of great photo opportunities, Christmas characters your child can meet, Santa’s workshop crafts…
My favorite activity was the family Give-A-Bear Stuffing Station. We all had fun stuffing bears to be donated to United Way! Then just a short walk out the back exit of the Devon building and you’re at…
3. Winter Shoppes at Myriad Gardens
Oh my goodness! What fun it was just to be at the Shoppes at Myriad Gardens. Do some shopping and then head over to…
ride a Holiday Carousel! There was just something so nostalgic about watching the kids ride the Carousel in downtown Oklahoma City. I loved watching them as much as they loved riding!
While you’re there make sure to take in Myriad Gardens. It’s beautiful!
4. Devon Ice Rink at Myriad Gardens
Just a short walk from Myriad Gardens is the kind of winter fun you see in the movies–Ice skating downtown Oklahoma City. It’s just so romantic; isn’t it?
This was my kids first time to ice skate, and they had a blast! The girls especially picked it up pretty quickly. It was cold, with light rain at the rink that day. We were the first ones there and wondered how it would go. It was perfect. As the girls skated people started streaming in and by the time we left there was a crowd.
THIS is how I got them to leave their skates. Hot chocolate is available for purchase at the rink. How fun to warm up after ice skating with hot chocolate!
5. FREE Bricktown water taxi
Walking along the path of the Oklahoma City Canal is beautiful in itself, but at night…
You can ride a water taxi for a fun filled holiday cruise for free during the holidays! You can’t beat that!
6. Catch a show at the Oklahoma City Civic Center!
We were there for Canterbury Christmas, an OKC tradition to begin the Christmas season. There was a vast variety of Christmas music. It was gorgeous. But what surprised me the most was my five year old who quietly watched the entire thing and then proclaimed, “I liked it!” when it was over. I think this kid may have music!
7. Relax at the beautiful Hampton Bricktown Hotel.
With an extensive breakfast, round the clock coffee and tea bar, and afternoon cookies your family will be as happy as mine was.
And when they see the huge kid fun pool, you’ll be the best parents ever! Trust me. My kids are still talking about the fun they had here!
Oklahoma City at Christmas is a great way to spend time together as a family over the holidays. Take some time out during this busy time of year to enjoy what is most important!
