Jason and I were especially excited to go to Universal’s Islands of Adventure, because we had great memories from our newly wed days. The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman was our all time favorite ride, and we couldn’t wait to ride again and experience it with our kids. I am happy to say it is still just as great as we remember it! With 3D glasses it’s like being thrown into the movie and going along with Spiderman as he saves the day. We love this ride!
The entire Harry Potter section of the park is of course new since we have been there so Jason and I headed to that area first. Apparently everyone had the same idea, because there was quite a long line. Later in the day we went back and it was mostly empty and walked right on the ride so you may want to consider that on your trip. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter–Hoggsmeade ride is a similar kind of experience to the Spiderman ride and we thought it was super cool!
Grace wanted a photo in front of the Dr Suess Landing! My younger kiddos had a blast here. BUT if Island’s of Adventure has the best ride ever in Spiderman, it also gets our vote for the worst ride ever in the High in the Sky Suess Trolley Train Ride. Besides the first Harry Potter ride, this is the longest we waited for a ride all day, and let me say, it wasn’t worth it. Here is why I think it’s the worst ride: The line is slow. The ride is slow. Little kids who would love the ride aren’t allowed on it and anyone older than five found it boring. If you skip one ride, let it be this one.
The One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish ride was a huge hit! This is the first of these types of rides that the kids could get wet on and they loved it. I did come prepared with extra sweatshirts for the kids in case they got cold or wet. Points for Mom!
And well, ya can’t go and miss Jarassic Park–classic! The Jarassic Park River Adventure was surprisingly awesome. I usually try to skip the wet rides, but my family said I HAD to go on that one, and I was glad I didn’t miss it!
I researched and researched and researched the food deals at Universal. I really wanted to get them and wanted them to be a good deal. However, for our family I found they just didn’t save us money so we skipped the meal plans, and just ordered and split meals when we were hungry. All the food we had was excellent and we are still talking about the pizza. The one “deal” I did get was the 1 Day of unlimited Freestyle soft drinks. It was $11.99 to drink all day, and since I was sharing it with (cough) 7 people, it was a great deal. We all took turns choosing the flavor at the machine. It was a blast! Then taking it on a future visit the price was about $6 for all day. I was pretty proud of myself until about 2:00 am when Little Jason woke me up throwing up in the bathroom. One of my first thoughts was, “Oh no, we all shared the drinks today and we’re all going to be sick before we get home…”
