Sons of the Pioneers and Chuckwagon Supper

Pavilion Theater Featuring Sons of the PioneersWe timed our Shepherd of the Hills Homestead tour so that we wouldn’t have to wait too long before the Sons of the Pioneers Show and Chuckwagon Supper.  Now I purposefully did not plan many music shows because my family just isn’t that into music.  I mean they like to sing and dance around well enough, but sit and listen to someone sing or play an instrument?  Not so much!

I REALLY wanted to see the Sons of the Pioneers!  I grew up on all the old western songs.  I remember playing them over and over on our record player so that I could memorize the words.  My brother would sing the songs as he did the chores in the fields.  Those songs are a part of my childhood!  I knew this would not be the show for my kiddos, but when I heard about the dinner I thought they would have something to do during the show and signed us up.  Well, as it turned out, they serve the dinner and clear it away before the show begins!

Chuck Wagon Theater at Pavilion TheaterThe Theater was in an outdoor pavilion.  It was such a hot day that I was a little concerned about how much I would enjoy the food and show in the heat, but there are many ceiling fans that kept the place nice and cool.  In fact, I thought it was much cooler here at 4:00 than it was at The Shepherd of the Hills outdoor play in the evening!

Sons of the Pioneers Chuck Wagon DinnerWe were served iced tea or lemonade, roast beef, chicken, potatoes, corn on the cob, beans, a roll, and apple cobbler.  The food was really good.  Faith my 12 year-old finished her entire meal except for a little corn!

Sons of the Pioneers BransonI loved every minute of the Sons of the Pioneers!  I sang along with most of them and was pretty proud to be one of the few still singing the lyrics to Ragtime Cowboy Joe!  I wished my parents and my brother especially could have been there to enjoy it with me.  My husband and kiddos…let’s just say they behaved most of the time!  I bought everyone snacks so that they would have something to do.

Sons of the PioneersI enjoyed all the talent in the show but the fiddler Ricky Boen was incredible.  It just makes sense that he is a Texan!

When you take your family to the show make sure and ask for the family pass!  That saved us a lot of money!  If you love the old country western songs, you’ll love the Sons of the Pioneers!  I’m still singing them over and over.  I loved it!

NOTE: The Sons of the Pioneers now perform at The Baldknobbers Theater!
