Slow Cooker Sweet & Tangy Meatballs

Meatballs New Year's Eve Party

New Years Eve was a big deal for us this year.  After all that traveling we were finally all home together for a holiday weekend.  It felt wonderful not to have anywhere to go.  But the big deal for the kids was that this was the first year that we had a New Year’s Eve party, and they all had the opportunity to stay up to midnight.  In years past it was just too much for me with little ones to celebrate the night before and then have our New Years Day fondue party the next day.

Our food consisted of an array of our favorite appetizers and finger foods.  Each child told me their must have party food, and I tried to make something from everyone’s list.  We had homemade salsa, guacamole, Jalapeno Popper Dip, Jalapeno Cheese Ball, fruit, and pound cake. Course the man of the family wouldn’t consider it a meal without some meat right?  To please my man I made these delicious and super easy to make Sweet & Tangy Meatballs.  There’s not need to buy ready made meatballs when the homemade version is this easy!

What you need:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 medium onion,, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (12 oz) bottle chili sauce
  • 9 oz grape jelly
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice

Easy cocktail meatballs

I love to get my little helpers involved! This was their first time to grate an onion. They said an onion would never make them cry.  Ha! They had to take turns because they couldn’t see.  Is is wrong that I really got a kick out of that?  Ha ha.

Then mix the grated  onion with the beaten egg, meat, and salt.

Meatballs in the slowcooker

In your slow cooker stir together the chili sauce and grape jelly.

Crockpot meatballs

Form 1 inch balls with the meat mixture and gently put them in the the sauce.  Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high 3-4 hours.

Even the kids thought these sweet and tangy meatballs were good!

New Year's Eve Party 2015

We ate supper early, played games, and watched movies.  The food was left out to come and grab as they pleased.  Fun was had by all though only three of the kids lasted to bring in the New Year. Those stinkers gave out on me, after all that work I did to let them stay up! 😉
