Jason my husband had a business trip to San Antonio which why we all piled in the van and made it a little getaway. His job site was right downtown San Antonio about three blocks from the San Antonio Children’s Museum. So the when he went to work, we went to the Children’s Museum. We stayed from open to close.
I tell you what; the kids did not get bored. Every room was a new adventure, and though I let them play for a long time in each room, I had to pull them away to move on since they were having so much fun. My boys loved this race track. Little Jason build his lego cars and raced them. Bobby just found a couple of balls and raced them!
How much fun can a kid have in a sand pit? Endless of course! At one point I actually had tell them it probably wasn’t meant for them to sit completely in it!
Don’t like the kids to bang on the piano? They can here! My girls loved it! They got to explore music without anyone telling them to be quiet. 🙂
Bubbles! Every little kid loves bubbles. I thought this section of water and bubble play was very clever. There was a table of running water and boats that my five year old son played in for hours.
Oh and how exciting to be completely enveloped in a bubble. They played with this contraption so long they perfected it!
There are three levels to the museum and another treasure at every turn. I’ve only captured a few favorite activities. The little ones don’t know how to play chess, but they sure loved setting the pieces up and knocking them down.
“Hey Mom take a picture of us in this boat!”
Right next to the boat is the Art Pavilion where they had an art class for the kids. Bobby fell asleep right at the beginning so I got a little break, but Sarah, the lady that oversaw the class was fantastic with the children.
They fell in love with Sarah from the beginning. She was so positive, patient, and encouraging to the kids. My children left protecting their masterpieces and feeling like artists!
I loved this interactive story. The children actually are able to take their photo so that their faces appear on the screen in the story!
There are so many more things to explore in the museum, but out of everything my kids probably enjoyed the ball machine the most. They would work really hard to load all the balls into the machine that would shoot them to the top and at various times the hatch would open and all the balls would fall back out. It was unlimited fun. It was such a great day that when my husband went back to work the next day, we went back to the Children’s Museum. I even bought a season pass. Now, I do hope we’ll get back to San Antonio in the next year to be able to use it!

Your kids looked like they had a ball! We’ve been to the Children’s Museum in Chicago, Seattle, and Spokane, and we’ve enjoyed them all!
I found your post on Pinterest. Our family has been to children’s museums in Seattle and Denver. We had a blast too. I live in Billings, Montana and am currently on a steering committee working to open a children’s museum here. It’s a long hard road, but I think we’ll get there. There are five other children’s museums in Montana. Billings is the largest city. We really need a museum. I’ve created a page about children’s museums with Squidoo. I’ve love for you to head over and leave a comment in support of children’s museums. We are working on rallying community support for the opening and funding of a museum in Billings, Montana.
You have a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing your museum experience. http://www.squidoo.com/childrens-museum
