Reading! It’s how we are spending our summer. My kids are in the public library reading programs, a nearby church reading program, and a book club at our church. We try to get out and do things whenever an opportunity arises, but when we are home we attempt to do some math and a ton of reading! We do read all year of course, but we devote out summers to reading. Academically it is great for them, but we read for fun. The kids get to choose books they are interested in over the summer (with my direction and approval of course) and not just the books I assign, but I love the incentives that the public libraries close to us offer.
So our plan is to read, read, read and then take the kids to use all of their free coupons! Last week we turned in our reading log to one library and have already been reaping the benefits:
This is a new favorite place of ours. Have you been?
The kids received a free kids combo each! So exciting for them to have their own meal!
A free ice-cream at Chick-fil-A.
Waiting for his free Quesadilla at Taco Cabana!
We have lots more places to visit with our coupons yet–so fun! Do you and your kids participate in the summer reading programs?

Mine are too old anymore. It’s a shame, because they all look like a lot of fun!
We don’t have the same incentives over here in Scotland – but my daughter finished her 2nd book in a week last night, and was delighted to have “backup books read” for when she gets back to school, and requires to do talks, reviews and reports etc on books she’s read, and is more pushed for time to fit the reading part in.
Got to say I had to laugh 😉
