How often are we practicing thankfulness? It’s November and like many of you I’ve been thinking about thankfulness. I have so much to be thankful for now and every day. This post I wrote a few years ago kept coming to mind. While my kids are older and some of the issues are different the principles are still the same.
Let’s practice thankfulness!
I am thankful for laundry. It reminds me that I have a house full of little blessings.
I am thankful for dirty dishes. They remind me that God has amply provided us with food.
I am thankful for screams and whining. Those sounds remind me that God has entrusted me with little lives to teach and train.
I am thankful for being awakened in the morning with cries of, “I want breakfast!” They remind me of one of my favorite verses. Proverbs 17:14 “He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.” It makes me smile.
I am thankful for a dirty house. It reminds me of Proverbs 14:4 “Where no oxen are, the crib is clean,” someday it will not be a problem to keep a clean house, and oh how I will miss all my little oxen!
I am thankful for a sore throat. It reminds me of my mortality. I need to enjoy each day.
I am thankful for the mouse. It reminds me…that I’m really mad we haven’t caught it. Wait. It reminds me that…I’m going to need help with this one! 😉

Since our move to south Texas, I’m happy to say we no longer have mice. Yay! Now we have RATS, but I’m thankful for the kittens (photos soon) who have now joined our family. We hope they will help keep the rats away… 🙂 I will be practicing thankfulness anyway though! How about you? 🙂

I enjoyed reading your perspective this morning. “Rejoice always and again I say Rejoice.” “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Thanks for sharing!
….I am thankful for the little mouse, it reminds me that ALL God’s creatures need to eat. (AND WHY WON’T IT EAT THE PEANUT BUTTER!) Totally enjoyed your post 🙂
@dr momi-LOL!
Thanks for the perspective (and the laughs).
I love that list! It is so precious. With mine now in their teens, already life has changed and I miss them waking me up for breakfast and toys being all over the living room floor after a day of great playing! Cherish those moments…as far as the mouse…I cannot help you with that one! EEKK!!
What a wonderful reminder that we can be thankful in all things. My MS provides my gratitude practice. I’m thankful I can still see, for a husband who lovingly cares for me and even gives me my weekly shot, and that God provides the strength I need for each day.
Thanks for painting a word picture of a ‘typical’ day in the life of a young mother. ‘Reminded me of many such days long ago…when I was also thankful for the clutter – a reminder God blessed me with children.
As always, you make me smile when I read your posts. What a great outlook on life in general.
Good luck with your newest, it’s soon right?
I’m thankful that you reminded me to be thankful!
Thank you for the great reminder to find something to be thankful for in everything.
I absolutely love this! Thanks for the great reminder. I wanted to tweet this and mention you in the tweet. Do you have a twitter account? Sorry if I totally overlooked it….I wouldn’t be surprise if I did. lol
You still have that darn mouse?!!! Will be happy for you when you get that little sneaky thing caught!!!
What a great post! It is hard sometimes to remember to be thankful for all the little things! 🙂
Never read a thankful list like yours. Gives me a new perspective on life.
Mouse is still around?! It has been weeks… Lovely list, so much to be grateful for, even if it appears less likable to start off.
Love it!!! So often it is easy to grumble when if we look a little deeper, we are so richly blessed!! Thanks for the reminder.
Mouse…reminds you that your house is warm and safe from storms.
And the kicking in your baby reminds you that you’ll be up nursing a newborn soon. Congrats to all of you.
Years ago I was upset about my toddler’s bite marks on some magnets until a woman smiled at them and said, “How precious. You will miss this when it’s gone.” I suddenly saw the bite marks as a blessing.
What a sweet post! As hard as some of these days can be with young ones, you really will treasure those moments later. I look at pictures of when my kids were little and wish I could rock them to sleep one more time! Thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!
Love, Love, Love this post and will post it to my fb wall as a reminder to be thankful.
