Going to the movies is not something that we have done very often. It is of course much more economical to wait until a movie comes out on DVD. If Jason and I want to go alone there there is the price of a baby sitter plus the cost of the movie to consider. So generally we wait. But I love to see a great movie on the big screen, and if it’s showing in 3D…you know how I feel about 3D!
The second Hobbit is one we really wanted to see on the big screen. We thought we missed it. There were no longer showing at theaters yet the dollar theaters didn’t have it advertised or even in their up and coming movie sections. I was so bummed. Then it appeared at the Dollar movie and in 3D! We HAD to go! Yes we took everyone. We timed it so our little guys would be sleepy. It worked out great. I thought, “There it was, our one trip to the movies as a family in a year.” Ha ha.
The next week my husband surprised me by saying he wanted to see The Son of God movie. He had heard that it was a very well done Biblical movie, and he wanted to support it. Since it had already been out at the theater for several weeks, showings and theaters were limited. We ended up at an AMC at Iriving Mall. It was quite the experience. We had never been to such a neat theater. We thought it was quite expensive for a matinee, and were surprised when we had assigned seating. Then we walked in. The seats were recliners! It was totally worth the extra price.
We really liked the movie. Of course THE Book is better, but we thought the movie was very well done. There are a few things not exactly like the true biblical account, but nothing we thought that changed the message. I recommend the movie.
While we were there we saw the preview for God’s Not Dead. So guess what? The last weekend we went to see it. That’s three weekend’s in a row! I’m having a blast! I also recommend God’s Not Dead. While there are a few things that we found…unbelievable it’s a great, entertaining movie with an even better message.
So that’s how I ended up going to the movies three weekends in a row. Pinch me now! Keep the great family films coming!

Make sure you skip the Noah movie. Other than a man name Noah, an ark, and the fact he had three sons, none of the rest of it even comes close to the story. And no, we didn’t waste our money on it. We went to see God’s Not Dead as well, but our friends unfortunately did go see Noah and said it was a real flopper. Too bad it was number one in the box offices this weekend.
I agree. I saw God’s Not Dead with my grandma and LOVED IT! Normally, I don’t like going to movies, but I liked this one so much that I told Dave I would even go again so he could go with me. (We didn’t end up going.)
My grandma saw Noah the next day. She hated it! She said it wasn’t true to the Bible at all. And she was quite angry. (I don’t know why. I warned her about what I’d heard.)
I agree with you guys! After researching the movie “Noah” we have no plans to go to it!
I totally loved God’s Not Dead!!! It was very well produced. I would also totally recommend the movie Heaven is For Real-though I’m not sure if it’s in 3D:).
