One of our traditions that the children look forward to every year is our Christmas Tree Decorating Party. In the beginning I figured that if I made food and called it a party then my husband couldn’t complain about helping put the tree up. He’s uh, not one to…get into festivities much. But it has become so much more than that now that the kids look forward to it every year. Christmas jammies are always a big part of our night. Get the look:
This year I had fun shopping for their Christmas PJs at Sears. It’s so fun when you find the perfect outfits! I knew the girls would love the doggy snowflake jammies. I picked those out right away. And then as I looked through the boy jammies I was so excited to find a similar style of shirt with fleece bottoms that I knew the boys would like. Aren’t they adorable? It was so fun to surprise them!
We did things a little differently this year. Normally we eat, decorate the tree, and then watch the first Christmas movie of the season in our Christmas jammies. Well, this year I was a little late, and we had already been watching lots of Christmas movies. With the frozen weather we’ve been having in Texas, I knew they would love going to Frozen. So we kicked off our Christmas Tree Decorating Party at the movies.
Then we came home and had about an hour to throw our meal together. I knew it would be a busy day. I like to make a bar of finger foods for this party, but I went ultra simple this year. We had store bought egg nog and sparkling apple juice, Queso dip with meat and veggies, Snicker Salad, and a relish tray. That’s it! It was quick easy and everyone loved it. It doesn’t have to mean an entire day in the kitchen to be fun and festive! (Though I really enjoy spending an entire day in the kitchen when I can work it in!)
Daddy put the tree up while the girls and I cleaned up the kitchen. Then it was time to decorate! Since we had already watched our movie, this year we decorated the tree in our Christmas jammies. The children could not have been more excited. Even my husband commented, “They really get excited about this kind of stuff don’t they?” I had to laugh at his astounding observation!
They were grabbing ornaments out of my hands and the boxes faster than I could keep up with them. It was tough to find a second to get a photo taken. I think they were all in a race to see who could hang the most ornaments!
Grace was so sweet and patient helping Bobby hang his ornaments. I love her little mother’s heart!
Ta da! They were so proud of their beautiful Christmas tree. They still just walk by in awe and make sure the lights are on every morning. I remember feeling the same way when I was little. I love the photo of them in their Christmas jammies from Sears. They are wearing them night and day when I let them–quite literally.

I love the jammies and the decorating party! I thought for a minute when I started reading that you were going to say they went to the movie in them. They do look cute.
It looks like you had fun decorating the tree. Cute pajamas!
