I made sticky buns for the kids to eat Christmas morning. I prepared them the night before, let them rise in the refrigerator overnight, and stuck them in the oven in the morning. I wasn’t sure if they would work made ahead that way, but they were perfectly delicious. I’m going to do this more often now!
We got ready and took a few pictures before time to leave for church.
Yes they are all mine! Actually it’s even hard for me to believe!
We made it to church, but I think everyone that saw me thought I should have stayed home! I really did not feel great. Bobby was up half the night and was extra fussy all morning.
After church we picked up fast food on the way home! Yes there are actually places open on Christmas Day! When we finished eating the kids opened their gifts. I held a fussy Bobby the entire time and I think this is the first year I didn’t get one single photo of the kids opening gifts.
My plan had been to begin cooking our Christmas turkey dinner after this but I was exhausted. I threw up my hands with a few tears mixed in and declared I was just too tired to start in cooking all afternoon, but no one seemed to mind after I told them I’d do it the next morning. Jason had Monday off so it worked out great.
I didn’t make quite all the sides that I usually do, but still managed a turkey dinner. I ruined the turkey though. It was bland and rubbery–ew! I also found out a loaf of bread still works when you put in an extra cup of flour too, albeit not as tasty. All in all I was glad to have it done. Now the kids all want to know what I’m making for New Year’s…

Oh gosh, you sound exhausted! I probably just would’ve picked up cooked food and sides from a grocery store. I hope you start getting more sleep soon. The pictures are very cute, and the sticky buns look wonderful!
You have a newborn! You are not Superwoman! Quit making the rest of us look bad 😉 I hope you have a great New Year! Congrats on the little one!
The important thing isn’t a perfect meal; it’s the time you spent together as a family. In the end, as long as you are together, it will all work out. Your family is beautiful. Happy New Year!
Hey,you did your best Esther, and that’s fine. Anyway it’s not the food your kids will remember, but the time spent together as a family. So don’t sweat it:).
Yum….sticky buns for breakfast…for sure the kids will remember that!
My goodness but your kids are growing up fast (if I just compare this to what they looked like last year!)
We have sticky buns on Christmas morning too! For as far back as I can remember, Mom has prepared them the night before and let them rise in the fridge overnight. It does make Christmas morning much less chaotic–and breakfast is ready sooner so everyone is happy!
Oh, look! You have Christmas crackers! (Yay)
Who cares if you ruined the turkey? Your Christmas table looks gorgeous.
Maybe you’ll feel better to know that I exploded a cauliflower in the microwave once. Yep. There was a POP, and the cauliflower went up in FLAMES. I’m not kidding.
We had to throw the microwave in the trash and go buy another one.
