My Chaotic Morning

Now why did we go to all the trouble to take them to see the sites? We have bushes at home!

We recently took our first family vacation since we’ve had children.  We have taken numerous trips before to visit family and such, but this was the first time it was just us setting out to vacation.  It reminded me of this little episode I jotted down a couple of years ago about a chaotic morning:

I had laundry going.  The dish washer was open and the dishes half put away.  In my left arm I was carrying around a screaming baby boy.  Faith was shouting “Mom, I need help with math.”

As I was trying to explain her homework, I was shouting, “Grace, go sit back down on the potty.  It doesn’t matter if you can’t, just sit down.”

Meanwhile Joy kept coming in from outside to get a drink, and every time she opened the door, the dog, who was still new to us at the time, was pushing her way in.  So with both arms full, I was pushing the dog outside with my foot.  Variations of this scene went on for a good two hours and I was really going crazy.  It’s actually rare that I’m pulled five ways at once, but it was just one of those times.

When I had all I could take, I loaded them all up and took them to the library to sign them up for the summer reading program, brought them back, fed them lunch and sent them to bed.  Of course it would be the one day Little Jason wouldn’t take his nap, but by then it was at least calmer.  When Jason got home, I gave him a full report with demonstration and we laughed and laughed.

That was just one morning at home.  Now try to imagine four children, a pregnant wife, and a forgetful husband all in a van and hotels for eight days and nights…  Coming soon!  No promises on how soon mind you, but soon!  Ha!
