After a fun filled morning at Silver Dollar City, it was time for lunch. We planned on eating at the park to make the most of our time there. You know how sometimes you worry about having to spend an exorbitant amount of money on food that is not that great at theme parks?
Well no worries like that here. The handcrafted pizza at Crossroads pizza was fantastic, and we thought it was reasonably priced.
After lunch was the hottest part of the day. Perfect, we thought, for American Plunge!
Next we headed to Half Dollar Holler where the kids entertained themselves for over an hour while I held my sleeping one-year-old. The kids loved watching the balls shoot out of this huge contraption and they were able to get out of the sun for a while.
Then they explored the rest of the area including the jungle gym and splash pad.
Someone told me to make sure and save time for Marvel Cave, and I was so glad they did because we might have missed it otherwise. The entrance to the cave is in the gift shop close to the entrance of the park. We took the last tour in the afternoon. Marvel cave is a complete limestone cave with formations that are still growing.
We walked down a zillion (just a bit exaggerated) stairs to get to 300 feet below the surface to arrive at the Cathedral Room, the largest cave entrance room in the United States. Then we walked UP most of those stairs until we reached a train that took us the rest of the way up. I did the entire thing holding Little Jason’s hand, my four year old. And my husband carried Bobby! I think we all felt a little proud to have made it!
When we finished the tour at Marvel Cave we had about an hour before the rides closed. We went madly running through the park riding as many of the rides we could before they closed. They literally chained the ride behind us on our last ride!
During the Southern Gospel Picnic at Silver Dollar City each night when the rides close there is a two hour Southern Gospel Concert included in the price of the day’s ticket.
The day we were there Karen Peck and New River were the artists! We arrived late as I told you we rode the rides until the last second. The place was packed out! We listened for a little while, but then decided not to try to make our little ones sit still for two hours. They were so tired that they were a little wild. If they had to sit still, they were going to fall asleep. We decided to go ahead and go.
We had a wonderful time at Silver Dollar City! Folks I talked to said they purchased season passes even though they were just there for the week. That way they could come and go as they pleased. I thought that was a brilliant idea. I also found out that passes to Showboat Branson Belle are half price with season tickets. You can’t beat that!
We went out for a quick supper and everyone went to sleep early that night. Ahh! Finally, Mom got some rest!
