Mild Misunderstanding

My niece Skyler Ashley wrote this story and is letting me post it here today.  She loves to write and is in the process of finishing her first book that is set to publish at Barnes and Noble through their PubIt program.

The other night I was up late, working on an online writing format for a friend. To illustrate her character, she had chosen the actor Gerard Butler, and so as requested by her, I was busily searching the web for a picture of him to add to her format. Mom walked into the kitchen where I was working and caught me admiring a particularly attractive picture of the man. I showed her, saying “Isn’t he so handsome!?

Viewing this as an oppotunity to tease me, she grinned and nodded. “Yes, he is. Did you know he’s only a year older than I am?”

“I know!” I sighed, acting as dramatically distraught as ever just to get a laugh out of her. “Why couldn’t he be younger?”

“Yes, Skyler,” she smirked. “He’s old!”

I turned to her in all seriousness then and explained, “Well, Mom. Not all people in their 40s are old.”
