Our Weekend Getaway Part 4
I was so excited about the Mesquite rodeo. Growing up, our tradition had been to go to a rodeo every 4th of July, but sometime between junior high and high school we quit going. It was super hot in South Texas and the rodeo was an hour drive away from where we lived, so the tradition kind of died.
The beginning of the rodeo was very patriotic with songs and flags. It was emotional for me just to be there. We honored our country’s service men, and I thought of my dad, who served in the Air Force and had also been a bronc rider in his youth. I wished he could have been there with us to enjoy it. I couldn’t stop the tears that streamed down my face. When the riding began, I enjoyed every minute of it, and Jason enjoyed it as much as I did. We can’t wait to go back and take the kids.
On the way back to the hotel we decided we needed a snack. There was a place near the hotel that was always packed with cars. I mean, there were three drive-thru lanes and still the cars were parked in a long line on the street with police guiding traffic. We HAD to find out what all the fuss was about.
The name of the place is In and Out. We were surprised at the simple menu–just burgers and fries, but they were relatively inexpensive and boasted all-natural and healthy ingredients. We ordered our boxes of food and then like a couple of kids drove up to a light post and enjoyed our meal in the car. The hamburgers were delicious! The fries–well they were good, but I suppose I prefer the unhealthy kind! And so our day to ourselves came to an end. The time was running out all too fast. How I was enjoying this time with my husband without the kids!

looks like a really fun trip! ive never been to a rodeo… here in TN all ive seen are horse competitions…
Interesting that you took a picture of the bull rider. Your dad loves to watch the Professional Bull Riding on TV even now. It’s been many years since I went to a rodeo, but I’d like to go again sometime. I remember climbing up to the top of the bleachers and hiding my eyes for the bull riding part. Y’all probably tried to act like you didn’t know me.
The Rodeo looks like fun. It is good that you recognize the fun with your family. The best fun!
Have you not heard of In-n-Out before? They are a very California-based chain with stores in five states or so. At the Shepherds Conference, the lunch provided for the men one day (often the first) is In-n-Out burgers! (I’ve heard they are good, but I haven’t experienced it myself yet. My husband says they are great.)
That sounds so much fun! I’ve never taken my kids to a rodeo. But, we do have an In and Out right next to our house. Very dangerous!
Looks like a whole lot of fun together…
We LOVE In-N-Out! Did you notice that there is a Bible verse reference on all of their packaging? Makes me smile to see that. 🙂
There’s usually a Bible verse on the bottom of their soda cups too.
That first picture bothers me for one reason. The fella sitting there wearing a yellow shirt. When I was dating a bull rider, he always told me not to wear yellow to a rodeo. It was bad luck for everyone. I’ve heard that said several times since.
Maybe it’s just a local thing?
Looks like fun! Totally jealous! Haven’t been to a rodeo in years!!!

I have never tried In and Out we don’t have any around here but I have heard of them. We also do not have Chick a fil either 🙁
I had never even heard of In-N-Out before. It’s too bad they are so far from where we live. Yes I did love that they had Scripture verses on the packaging.
ah, In-N-Out, a So. Ca staple…! We have out of State visitors often, and they always want In-N-Out while they are here!
