Looking for an economical Carnival cruise port? Then book for Mahogany Bay Isla Roatan Honduras, an exotic island paradise for the most frugal of travelers. Carnival provided our family with one of their cruise packages and threw in a few extras. We purchased some items as well. As always all opinions are my own.
Welcome to Mahogany Bay Roatan! The moment you step off the ship beauty engulfs you!
Safety in Honduras was the number one concern from family and friends when they learned our itinerary. The port is owned by Carnival corporation and in order to enter the park we had to show our Sign and Sail cards. So the people on the beach are either employees or cruisers. Always be vigilant, but we felt completely safe the entire time.
The beach is only a short walk from port. We strolled though the tropical park taking our time to enjoy the exotic plants and wild life along the way, and the walk took us about fifteen minutes with five kids.
There are plenty of excursions for purchase if you want to enhance your time in Roatan. Don’t want to walk? Take the Magical Flying Beach Chairs for a nominal fee.
Beach chairs we were surprised to find out are free! Arrive to the beach early to get the best front row chairs shaded under beautiful palm trees.
You can also upgrade your stay with clam shell chair covers, private cabanas, kayaks, floats, and snorkel equipment.
We brought our own snorkel gear and life vests for our younger kids so this amazing day in Honduras was completely free.
When we headed out to Roatan, I figured we would spend a couple of hours and then head back to the ship. No way! It was so beautiful, fun, and relaxing that we stayed the entire day.
The kids didn’t even ask for food! If you don’t want to go back to the ship for lunch, there is also plenty of food available for purchase on the island as servers come around to the beach chairs to take your order.
I had never snorkeled before. The idea of it made me feel claustrophobic, and when I debated excursions, I didn’t want to pay for snorkeling if I wouldn’t be able to do it. Mahogany Bay Roatan was the perfect place for first time snorkeling!
Just walking out on the pier you can see beautiful colorful fish that I was amazed to see in the “wild.” My kids also saw a sting ray!
The reef is just a short swim off the pier, and the sea life we viewed is fantastic! We all gave snorkeling a try. I didn’t have the greatest gear, and water kept finding it’s way in my mask giving me that claustrophobic, suffocating feeling so I only snorkeled a short while, but I would definitely do it again.
It was an amazing day with the family. It was here that we heard the most “You make me wish I had brought my kids.” comments. We would all love to go back to Roatan!

It truly is, Stacie. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Honduras is definitely a place I certainly want to travel to in the future! Perhaps when my husband and I have kids because clearly it looks like a fun place to take the kiddos!
With or without kids it’s amazing!
I love carnival cruises! I’ve been on one and got to go snorkeling as well. Next time I go, I’ll have to take the Honduras cruise.
Yes! It’s a great itinerary.
Wow it’s gorgeous there! I would love to go there one day! I’ve never really traveled much, but I so want to
It really is beautiful. I hope you get the opportunity to travel. I love it so much.
Oh wow. This place looks relaxing and amazing! Everything is perfect there!
Exactly!
I’ve never been on a cruise before. But Mahogany Bay looks amazing!
Oh Amy it’s such a fun way to travel. I hope you get to go!
What a beautiful stop on a wonderful vacation! We’ve cruised quite a bit but have yet to go with our three year old daughter. We’re waiting just a bit longer because she’s our wild child and knows no boundaries, the thought of cruising and traveling abroad with her gives me major anxiety but she’s growing quickly and we can’t wait to get back to traveling to new places.
You know your children! I understand. I’ve wanted to tour Europe, but taking five kids I’m afraid I’ll lose one! lol They are getting old enough that it may be possible soon though.
This looks great. I always wondered what happened on excursions on a cruise and if they ended up costing a ton of money.
It’s about what you choose to do at port how much you spend, but it’s rare to find THIS in walking distance at no extra cost. Such a great port!
