Normally the first thing we head to when we get to the Texas Sate Fair is The Little Hands on the Farm. My children look forward to this every year. This year, however, we couldn’t wait to get our eyes on…Why Big Tex of course! After hearing and reading all the chatter about him we decided we liked the new and improved Big Tex!
THEN we headed to the Little Hands on the Farm. There’s my cowboy! It was the first year that we had enough heads to fill the mural! ๐
First of all each child gets fitted with their own apron and is handed a bucket. This was Faith’s last year to be able to participate. Sniff. She said, “Mom, I’m probably too old for this, but I want to do it anyway.” Aw. I’m sure the promise of a snack at the end doesn’t hurt either. ๐
Each child picks up some corn to feed the chickens. Then they go water the apple trees and pick up an apple on the way.
Planting seeds is always fun–all that digging in the dirt! Then they pick some veggies.
I was a little disappointed that they didn’t get to milk the cow this year. This year the farm purchased the equipment to milk the cow instead. ๐
Then at the end they trade in their goods for a dollar that they actually get to spend in the store! How fun is that! Oh to be a kid again! We’re already looking forward to next year…
