Library Policy

We have been watching 19 Kids and Counting as a family and are really enjoying it. We had checked out season four from the library and renewed it as many times as we were allowed. I had a fever one morning, but in order to avoid any more late fees a trip to the library was a must.

We arrived quite bedraggled after the half hour drive. I stood in line in hopes that we would be able to check the DVDs out again if there were no holds on the series. That’s what I told the lady when I reached the front of the line.

“There aren’t any holds on this,” she told me, “but I cannot let you check it out again. You have to wait 24 hours before checking it out again.”

I looked pitiful and said please, but the lady would not relent stating that was library policy. I understood and turned to leave.

“Would you like me to place a hold on this so that no one takes it, and it will be waiting for you in 24 hours?”

“You mean I can’t check it out today, but you’ll hold it for me so that no one else can check it out if I make another whole trip back over here tomorrow?”

“Yes!”

Now is it just me or is that completely silly?

She could’ve just left herself a note and ‘rechecked’ it out after 24 hours….and let you take it. Most people that are begging to keep ’19 Kids and Counting’ aren’t going to steal it, for crying out loud. Some peoples rules…sheesh 🙂

    A little bit pointless, I’d say…

Haha, hehee. I hope you don’t mind me laughing, but this is hilariously ironic. And funny. Silly rules.

I agree with Nicole, she could have easily helped you out, but then again, what does she care. She just works there!

“Ridiculous” and “inconsiderate” come to my mind!

Yep, silly … We have a saying here in South Africa: “rules is rules”, and it drives me mad …

That is ridiculous but also maybe a sign that you were meant to own the series as a DVD. Put it on your holiday list… you deserve it!

that is silly. You should have had her check it in. Then let the kids look for books and as you were checking back out you should have said I would like to check out the Duggars DVD that is on the to be shelved cart.

I love the Duggars too! I’m wondering if you shouldn’t write the library and check on the policies. Surely they have some kind of purpose at the heart of such a ridiculous policy and if not maybe it would prompt them to change.

Another strange policy. It honestly makes no sense, plus the waste in fuel. Why not just give it to you that day?
