“What is a kibbutz?” was the main question I had after the first time I read over the itinerary after we purchased the trip. That’s right AFTER. I think we glanced at it and bought it. All I knew is that it was a tour of Israel and that was good enough for me! But after the trip was purchased I spent a little more time looking through what we would be doing and where we would be staying. The tour was booked through Isram Israel. Traditionally a kibbutz was a community that pooled and shared all of it’s resources and finances, kind of a socialist or some said Zionist community. Kibbutz Haon, is a community settlement on the shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. It is located at the foot of the Golan Heights about a twenty minute drive from the city of Tiberias. In the early 2000s the community, highly in debt, had to liquidate and sell and it now a wonderful place for guests and tourists.
It was our own little home away from home. We stayed here three nights. I walked in to a living area.
Next I found the bedroom. Hmm our first night alone without the kids and we have I Love Lucy beds!
The bathroom was HUGE and the tub fit the room perfectly. I knew I was going to like it here. But there was more…
I kept exploring and was surprised to find another bedroom. Whew! 😉 Wow we had room in this place for our entire family of seven. I couldn’t help thinking how the kids would have loved running around this place!
After settling in our room, we decided to explore. It was our first day in Israel after all.
And then there it was. The Sea of Galilee. THE Sea of Galilee. Wow. It was breathtaking. So much went through my mind as I repeated over and over, “I’m looking at the very same Sea of Galilee in the Bible. Jesus was HERE!” Unbelievable!
We met up with Jason’s dad, Bob at Haon. It was so fun to get to spend time with him and enjoy the trip together.
And here we are at the Sea of Galilee, the first photo of us in Israel. We couldn’t believe we were there!

What a beautiful place to stay and begin your adventures in Israel at!!
