It’s a small world

When Jason and I married we continued to go to the church that was connected to the Christian school where I taught, but for several reasons we had begun talking about finding a new church home.  We hadn’t told anyone or visited any churches.  At a Christian book store one day my husband ended up talking to a pastor who invited  him to his church.  “I really think we should visit this church,” my husband told me when he recounted the conversation.

So the next…it was either a Sunday evening or Wednesday evening we visited.  After the service a man walked up to me and proclaimed, “My wife is going to be so sorry she missed you tonight!”  I have no idea what I said or how I must have looked, but I had no idea who the man was or why his wife would have cared that I was there!  Ha ha!  Don’t you hate that feeling?  But after talking for a few minutes I realized he had been the out of town boyfriend of a good friend of mine from college.  He was only on campus a few times when visiting so I was shocked that he recognized me after all those years!  As it turned out he was the associate pastor who had invited my husband!

From that first visit to the church we knew it was where God wanted us to be.  It was great to renew my friendship with Wendy and her husband Jeff.  We enjoyed several years of fellowship with this small church family until Jason graduated from the University and took a job in Sioux City, IA.

It’s a small world Part 2.

You think that’s a small world?

I met a (French) teenager today (in France) who told me about a short trip she made to Chicago earlier this year to improve her French. She stayed with a family who, it turns out, were from my town in South Africa. I know their parents well from church, and actually had supper with them just two weeks ago. I also used to work with their brother-in-law… What are the chances of that?
