Homemade Vanilla Pudding Recipe

OREO topped homemade vanilla puddingMy girls decided they wanted to make Vanilla Pudding the other day.  They were surprised that the ingredients are very similar to their favorite Vanilla Milk recipe!  They worked together to make the putting with the younger girls adding the ingredients and the older girls stirring the pudding.  That’s the most difficult thing about making homemade pudding–patience to stir, stir, stir!

Ingredients:
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
  1 teaspoon vanilla
OREOs for topping

Wisk vanilla puddingWhisk in the milk.  Whisk constantly over medium heat until it comes to a boil.  It took about 15-20 minutes of constant whisking to bring it to a boil.  Cook about one minute longer or until the pudding begins to thicken.

Add vanilla to puddingRemove the pudding from heat and add the vanilla.  Transfer the pudding to a bowl or serving bowls.  Cool to room temperature and then cover and refrigerate for at least a couple of hours.

How long has it been since you had some yummy homemade pudding?

The closest I’ve ever come to “home-made” pudding is making it out of the box….at home.
