Happy 10th Birthday to my sweet girl Grace. I’m going to say it. I have to say it! How time flies! Ha. And of course there’s also the old: She can’t possible be that old! Really though. You’d have been disappointed! ๐
Grace’s birthday falls around Memorial Day every year and being that it’s the end of the school year and my husband gets a day of vacation time, we like to use the time for trips. It was Grace’s one request this year that she have her birthday at home. Our birthdays are usually simple with a fast food trip for lunch, a balloon from their daddy, their choice of meal at home for supper, their choice of dessert, and a small gift or two, but somehow it’s very special to the kids. I love that!
Her one request was that we be home for her birthday so that she may have our simple family party at home. So we left on a trip the day after. Ha ha. Which made it very busy as getting a family of seven ready for a trip is no small feat, but we did it and she was happy.
Grace loves everything Hello Kitty. She asked her sister Faith to make her a Hello Kitty cake, but then wanted to design it herself and have Faith make her design. This was the result. I was so proud of Faith who thought her own design would look much more like the Hello Kitty, but instead she just did what her sister wanted. Grace was so pleased. The finished product looked exactly like her design. Me? I was just proud of both of them…and happy I didn’t have to decorate the cake! ๐ I love to cook but I’m no artist!
My laugh of the day, which I shared on Facebook came when Grace wanted to help make her cake and begged to crack the eggs. She took the egg in her hand and gave it a gentle whack on the counter. She looked at the egg. Nothing. What happened next surprised us all. She pounded that egg on the counter. Smash went the egg. Everywhere! Floor, counter–covered in egg. There Grace stood in shock. Well, she learned to crack an egg!
As a part of our birthday meal it is our tradition to go around the room from youngest to oldest and everyone shares something they appreciate about the birthday girl. Grace has a very sweet, tender heart. That is what came out from everyone as we went around the room. She loves to laugh and have fun, but she cares and loves deeply. I look forward to seeing her grow up…even though that will undoubtedly mean we all grow older with her. Ha! Happy Birthday Grace. We love you!

Happy Birthday Grace! What a fun and special way to celebrate a birthday! That’s so sweet that her sister was willing to just make the cake the way Grace wanted. You have a great attitude to say that at least Grace learned to crack an egg! I don’t think I would’ve been so kind.
