After the long bus ride, we were so happy to arrive at The Grande Denali Lodge. It was so neat to just look around and feel where we were. Through our Alaskan cruise we were on the edges of Alaska, but now we were deep in the beautiful country. The Lodge is situated on the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. The view was…am I over using the word amazing?…gorgeous!
Just after we drove up in our motor coach, a representative from the hotel boarded the bus and gave us our room keys. I was so happy I could have kissed the lady. I was dreading the long check in process when we arrived as we were so tired. But instead we just climbed out of the bus and went straight to our room. Check out the view from the window! Oh and pretend the white pick-up isn’t there. 😉
I got a real kick out of this sign in the bathroom. “For your safety sharp containers are available.” Ha ha ha I have no idea what a sharp container is but can’t fathom how it would be for my safety!
We then walked into the beautiful lodge.
There are actually two restaurants in the lodge. The one at the far back is the Alpenglow Restaurant. There is a circular view of tables by the windows all the way around. You were looking right out, down, and across the mountain. Jason and I were going to eat there until we saw the prices. They were about $25-$30 a plate. We were so tired we didn’t think we would enjoy food that much, and it was almost dark so we would have the view either.
This is Peaks Spirits Lounge. It is located just before the entrance of the Alpenglow. The menu was much more reasonable about $12-$17 per plate.
We sat back in the corner and waited for our food. Service is very friendly but not speedy. I think it’s because of the drove that came in from the bus. I was almost too tired to wait any longer when my food arrived.
And I was so glad I waited. Salmon tacos with jicama were delicious! Jason and I had agreed to share our meal and after I took one bite I regretted that decision!
Jason liked his fried fish too though I think he secretly wanted all of my tacos!
Then we retired to quite the awful sleep actually. Our room was at the very end which was very convenient for carrying all of our luggage, but the door to the outside slammed every time anyone went through it ALL STINKING NIGHT! I didn’t get much sleep at all. I hope they have that door fixed. Other wise this was an awesome place to stay and eat.

I would love to go to Alaska one day…so beautiful!
(And a sharps container is for the needles if you are diabetic…)
I was going to say the same thing about the sharps container as the comment above. The view you have is so beautiful! I have never been to Alaska, or to a lodge, but it looks like a really nice place to stay. That is great that the lady came on the bus to give everyone their key so you could just head to your room.
