Getting What We Want

One morning Joy woke up early, came down to my room, and shook me awake.  “I want breakfast!”

“Does Joy always get what Joy wants?”

“No.”

“Does Joy always pitch a fit when Joy doesn’t get what she wants.”  There was a short pause as she thought about this.

Then sheepishly she replied, “I think so.”

Well, ya gotta love the honesty.  We are working on this, but alas first thing in the morning…I got up and got her breakfast.  Don’t be too hard on me!  🙂

I’m linked with Simple Pleasures.

It hit me that maybe that’s how I sound to God at times. “I want…I want…” Reality checks aren’t always a bad thing.

I love her honest answer, so funny! This is such a hard thing to work on, at least for us 🙂 Adison’s preschool taught her this cute phrase, “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.” It doesn’t always work, but at least it is a family moto, we work on it.

LOL! The first thing my 4 year old says every single morning when he gets up is “I need to go potty!”

My father had an oft-repeated saying: “You don’t get your WANTS, you get your PUTS.” It came from one of his young siblings back in the 20’s complaining, “I don’t want to . . . .” when they had company and put her in bed to sleep with several other children with that answer. It stuck as a family saying.

I was just about to say that I think that I sound like Joy to God a lot. Then I read the first comment, and she said that too.

At least I have good company.

And I like little Joy’s honesty. That’s step one!

Glad Joy got what she wanted that morning, too. Grin.

This made me smile. Got to love that child for her honest heart. And if truth be told, I’ve pitched a few fits as a grown woman, so …. don’t be too hard on her. LOL!
