The girls were exchanging “words” over supper. “Girls!” I said, “Let’s be kind to each other.” I seem to be saying that a lot lately.
“But she called me a pig.”
Well, we had just been talking about how smart pigs are, but I decided against mentioning it. Instead I began quoting Proverbs 20:3, a verse that Jason had had them memorize, “It is honorable for a man to stop striving…” I waited for them to finish the sentence.
“Since any fool can start a quarrel,” one of the girls finally finished the verse.
“So if you’re not willing to stop striving, what does that make you?”
“A pig!” huffed my daughter.
