We had so much fun at my brother’s house in northern Minnesota! Wow what beautiful June climate. It was gorgeous! My niece’s wedding was in the morning so after the lunch reception we all congregated at my brother’s house. We spent three days enjoying the scenery, weather, and company.
My husband has been itching to move us out onto an acreage so the kids can have some land to explore. Having spent the time at my brother’s house, I know the kids would love it. They played endlessly!
The children were so excited to gather eggs and feed the chickens! We had so much fun watching.
Little Jason found out that roosters are very protective of the hens. This male kept a close eye any time the kids were near the chickens and any threat came with quick action.
Feeding the chickens is such a fun activity for city folk like us! I’ve been doing everything I can think of to keep the kids outside. I know that very soon in Texas it will be so hot the kids won’t want to go out there.
And when the chickens lose interest in the food why not get some work done? We all got a kick out of Bobby trying to shovel dirt with the humungous shovel. His Aunt Sara came to the rescue and gave him a kid’s size shovel, but that wasn’t any where near as picturesque!
It kinda made me want to have some chickens… Maybe when if we get that acreage!

I know what you mean about how the kids play outside when there is land to be played on! Every year when we visit my family in Oregon they do similar things. Play outside with the dogs, help with the cows and pigs, and always, always, feed the chickens and get the eggs. Kinda makes me want that too. But boy, oh boy the work that goes into owning land like that!
