Explore our Big Country

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of U.S. Cellular. The opinions and text are all mine.

US Cellular's Big CountryI love, love, love to travel!  I’m guessing y’all already know that by now.  🙂  The travel bug bit me when I was young.  My parents were missionaries and though finances were tight it did mean that travel was necessary.  How I looked forward to every road trip.  Each one was an adventure!  My parents always loved beautiful scenery, and we’d stop many times at the “scenic turn about” signs.

Oh my goodness, I loved watching U.S. Cellular’s “Big Country!” a series that is taking Americans, who have never gone far from home, on a trip of a lifetime!

Big Country episode 1, hosted by US Cellular - The trip of a lifetime for Julies to New York City - #USCCBigCountry #ad

Travel Channel’s Andrew Zimmern hosts Big Country. He is taking 5 people to explore the places they’ve only dreamed of. In episode 1, Andrew Zimmern takes Julies, who was nominated by his wife, on a spectacular adventure in New York City. Ahhh this gave me goose bumps!

First, it reminded me of my own visit to New York City oh so long ago!

new york City 1990Yep, that’s New York City in 1990.  My love of travel stayed with me all the way through high school where I first joined the choir and loved taking a yearly choir tour. Then my last two years of high school all my dreams came true when I was accepted into the six person ensemble that traveled and did PR for our boarding school.

Niagra Falls 1990My senior year we traveled the East Coast all the way to Maine!  Here we are in Niagara Falls.  I loved the sights, sounds, smells…and of course the FOOD all along the way.  I wish everyone had this experience!

My college years were a real bummer after such exciting years in high school.  Ha ha!  When I graduated college I moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where I taught high school Spanish.  I was SHOCKED at how many of my students had never even been out of the state of Nebraska and out of those that had several had only made the trip to Kansas City to visit a theme park.  That’s it. I began dreaming of taking these kids places.

rp_Spanish-club-001-1024x670.jpgOut of the four years I taught high school I took three groups of kids OUT of Nebraska!  But truth be told it was as much for me as it was for them.  I LOVE to travel.

Now I blog so that I may travel more.  It is truly a passion of mine, and I am so thankful I’ve had the opportunity to do and see so much.  I wish everyone could too!

And that’s why I just love that U.S. Cellular is giving customers who have lacked the time and opportunity to travel the trip of a lifetime – an adventure to a U.S. city with Travel Channel’s Andrew Zimmern! How exciting is that!
It that you?  Are you DYING to travel and lack the opportunity? U.S. Cellular is holding an online open casting call for the 5th episode, where you can nominate another deserving U.S. Cellular customer to star in the season finale of Big Country.
