Mexican potluck they said. I always wonder what to take. Everything in me wants to take REAL Mexican food, but will it go over well with all these gringos? Ha! I love fruit and was hungry for a good fruit salad. My first love has to be a fruit bowl with cayenne and lime mixed in it, but this probably wasn’t the thing for this crowd. Insert smile here! So I went with this very delicious, but more calorie packed Creamy Mexican Fruit Salad.
What you will need:
- 1 (14 oz) can of La Lechera Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 16 oz. Sour Cream
- 1 Teaspoon honey
- 1 Teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 medium Cantaloupe, diced
- 3 bananas, sliced
- 1 pint strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 pineapple, diced
- Sweetened, flaked coconut for topping
In a medium bowl mix together the sour cream, honey, cinnamon, and La Lechera.
Chop and slice the fruit. You can use a variety of fruits, but this combination is my favorite. I’m really not much of a banana eater, but I do like them this way.
If you are serving the fruit salad at home, it makes a very pretty individual sized portion. Just fill your cup with fruit and pour on the desired amount of sauce.
Then sprinkle each cup with coconut and serve! Some people also like to add granola and or raisins on top, but I prefer it just with a sprinkle of coconut.
If you’re serving a crowd, just place the mixed fruit in a bowl, pour the sauce over it. Then give it a little stir and top with coconut.
Yum! This is such a delicious fruit salad! It is sweet enough to be served as a light dessert too. My Creamy Mexican Fruit Salad went over fantastically well at the potluck. The kids were so disappointed there wasn’t much to bring home. Ha ha.
Does creamy fruit salad sound strange to you? Think of strawberries and cream! You need to try this!

This sounds like a fabulous fruit salad recipe…except for the coconut…I’d probably make it without that ingredient!
