Christmas Puppies

A couple of years ago we spent Christmas at my parent’s house. We went to sleep on Christmas Eve excited to celebrate the next day. In the middle of the night my dad’s Yorkie woke Jason and me up about one o’clock in the morning with her barking. We dozed back to sleep but the little dog kept barking. Finally, Jason got up and said he was going to go check and see what all the fuss was about.

“Esther,” he whispered, “there’s something the matter. There’s gross stuff all over the utility room floor and the dog seems desperate.”

We woke my dad, and I walked down the stairs to see for myself. The poor little dog was trying to have her first litter of puppies. The first two had been born but couldn’t get out of the sack. I sat down on the floor and to my surprise my dad’s little dog climbed up in my lap! She seemed comforted. Pretty soon she started whimpering and grunting. Would you believe she had a puppy right there in my lap? I sat on that floor with her in my lap all night as she struggled with each of her puppies, but all the rest of them made it!

I was so tired the whole next day from being up all night, but it was so exciting.

I’m linked with Gratituesday.

oh my gosh that is so gross. I would not have let her touch me. Poor dog, I know, but I can’t stand that kind of stuff. Dave always wanted to have a dog to breed her, and I wouldn’t even entertain the thought. No way no how.

And I always had the impression that animals did these things on their own. So nice that she turned to you for help.

I would have LOVED that! Amazing! My cat tried to have her kittens in my house once, but I put her back outside because my husband is not an advocate for house pets. At all! He would have flipped out at kittens being born in his house!

I saw my family dog giving birth when I was a child. I thought it was so disgusting, with all the mucous!
