The morning after my breakdown over what a horrible mother I have become, we were with our class of three-year-olds at church. As we were talking to them, Jason began asking several of them, “What do your parents do?”
He said a little girl answered, “My mommy yells at me all day and my daddy plays with me.”
A little boy said, “My mom and dad fight and my mom cries.”
In fact of the kids Jason asked, only one little boy actually gave his parents’ profession. He said, “My parents arrest people,” and then gave a demonstration as to how to put someone in hand cuffs. When we questioned his parents later, sure enough, they are both police officers.
I really appreciated Jason telling me what the kids had said. He didn’t want me to feel bad about what our daughters had said to me the night before. It was very sweet of him!

You know you’re a wonderful mom, right? You are 🙂
I did an interview with my 9 year old niece for her Grandmother’s birthday and one of the questions was where does Nanny work and her answer was “she sits on the computer all day and plays games” Kids see things differently and it usually is funny! Her Grandmother by the way is a nurse so where she got the idea that she plays games on the computer all day is beyond me!
Good follow up story! And how sad what some of those poor kids are subjected to everyday.
you’re a wonderful parent. No one is perfect, no one can be. Hell if we were we’d all be violently boring, arguing and getting upset about things shows your passion for your life and family. Justified to you or not, mistake or not, doesn’t matter.
chin up, we’re all here to pick you up, you’re awesome!
I love listening to children talk. They are so transparent. You are a wonderful mom, Esther. None of us have ever been perfect parents.
All of us as mothers have those days, but “His mercies are new every morning.”
My kids are very honest about my parenting skills and it is not always flattering either. My mother used to tell me that you have to wait for Grandchildren for someone to think you can walk on water (I have MANY years before that happens). But, until then, trust what God says about you in His Word. He knows we make mistakes, but He is very encouraging and uplifting anyway! Jer. 29:11
That is such a fun post! You never know what the kids will blurt out and at the most inappropriat times!
