Reading, reading, reading

Reading!  It’s how we are spending our summer.  My kids are in the public library reading programs, a nearby church reading program, and a book club at our church.  We try to get out and do things whenever an opportunity arises, but when we are home we attempt to do some math and a ton… [continue reading]

Teach Them Diligently Kids Program

Our children were accustomed to the homeschool and family conference in Houston that keeps siblings together during the kids program.  I don’t know if it will still be that way this year in Houston, but they did the last couple of years anyway.  My oldest two girls didn’t miss a beat, but my 4 and… [continue reading]

Teach Them Diligently Conference Omaha 2013

As much as we enjoyed visiting with family we were all looking forward to Teach Them Diligently, a homeschool convention that was held in Omaha at the CenturyLink Center.  Whenever we told people that we were from the Dallas area they looked at us like we were crazy.  Apparently they have heard good things about… [continue reading]

Homeschooling Myths

1.  Homeschool moms are SO patient, therefore they make good homeschoolers.  False!  This is my number one comment I receive that drives me crazy, because I am not a patient person.  Little kids in general can send me over the edge because of my lack of patience.  BUT as a homeschool mom I do have… [continue reading]

Homeschool day

I thought I’d give you a glimpse of what our typical homeschool day looks like.  We used to get up much earlier, but since my youngest was born we’ve pushed our mornings back some.  I get the kids up and eating breakfast around 8:00 and start school before 9:00.  And yes, we mostly do school… [continue reading]

Christmas Program

I feel really blessed that I have been able to send our kids to a one day a week school for homeschooled children.  They get to do some of the fun school things with other children.  They do things like PE, art, and music that are fun to do with a crowd.  I especially appreciate… [continue reading]

BabbaBox–learning is fun and easy!

I was so excited to be able to try BabbaBox with my four and six year olds!  The theme of the box we received was Sun, Moon, and Stars.  It came complete with everything I needed to do four activities with my children. There was an explore with your own binoculars activity, a picture book… [continue reading]

Teaching Moments

I was in the bathroom when I spied a black spider crawling my way.  I just watched it for a minute.  It kept coming.  Then it hit me that I needed to move or it was going to be on me.  I grabbed a paper and started furiously shaking it at the spider.  It jumped… [continue reading]

You know you’re an awesome homeschool mom when…

Teaching Textbooks is the best new decision we made with homeschooling this year.  For the first time my kids enjoy math!  It is a computer program that gives them instant feedback on their answers!  Gone are the days when I’ve gotten five lessons behind in my grading only to realize my daughter was doing them… [continue reading]

Quaver Music

We met Quaver!!!  Several weeks ago I received an email inviting me to Crepes with Quaver in Dallas.  Thinking it was a promotional dinner for bloggers, I invited my daughter to go with me and signed up to go.  Imagine my confusion when I was asked what school district I was with!  It was… [continue reading]
