Our Mommy and Me Day began at Build-A-Bear Workshop at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, Texas. It is our tradition to get away overnight every two years beginning when my children turn 8. It is a great time together with just one child and also a serves as a get away to talk about growing up without the distraction of the rest of the family. My kids look forward to, plan, and dream about their day.
This year Joy decided to go to Build-A-Bear Workshop. Ever since her best friend got to go for her birthday Joy has been dying to go. Then Grace, Joy’s younger sister, was invited to a birthday day out with her best friend in which they each got to pick out a Build-A-Bear. I was a little worried about Joy as I knew she had already been dreaming of going herself, but you know what? She handled it very well and seemed happy for her sister. I was so proud of her.
Joy spent her own money at the Build-A-Bear Workshop. She had saved Christmas money along with some money she earned, so everything she spent was hers. I think this really added to the experience for her as she weighed the value of everything.
Y’all, we had so much fun! I really could not have imagined the fun we would have. First she walked around the entire store looking for the perfect bear. When she finally settled on the Rainbow Leopard she never looked back. Next we spent a good hour looking at all the clothes and accessories. Keep in mind that besides outfits there are shoes, sun glasses, beds, closets, bows, pjs, and so much more to choose from.
When she decided on all the clothes and accessories it was time to head over to have her stuffed.
Don’t be fooled. Your choices are still not over. You get to pick out a heart, sound, and/or smell for your bear. Joy decided on the free heart, but did purchase a berry smell for her. I was secretly glad she did! 🙂
Next there is a heart ceremony. I don’t remember what all it entailed, but Joy loved it.
At the end of the ceremony the child gets to place the heart inside the bear!
Then you take your bear to the “Dressing Room” to clothe your bear she can leave the store all decked out. Isn’t that the cutest?
Your bear not only has a heart, but a birth certificate as well! After your bear is dressed for the day you get to name her and print off her birth certificate!
Guys, I never would have imagined the Build-A-Bear Workshop experience would be this fun. It was actually my first time too and the truth is…I kind of wanted one for myself! I wished Faith had gotten to do this when she was young and now hope to take my boys some day too. Yes, they have boy bears too like super hero options and Minions!
My fear was always that we would spend the money and the kids wouldn’t really play with or appreciate it in the long term. So far Joy has hardly put hers down. She loves it so much!
Next we grabbed a quick snack for supper, walked around the mall a little more and then headed to our hotel…
