Be Fearless Be Kind

Kindness is so important!  A kind word given or action taken is a treasure. How we cherish the people who have been kind to us. In the face of anger or fear, how kindness changes things and turns attitudes around! And that is why I’m so happy to partner with Hasbro in their new Be Fearless Be Kind initiative.

Be Fearless Be Kind is designed to empower kids to have compassion, empathy, and courage to stand up for others.  The goal is to help parents and kids with the ultimate goal of building a kinder generation, one where all kids are included; where differences are appreciated; where empathy and compassion are nurtured in kids, and they get the feeling of fulfillment that comes with doing the right thing. It’s not always easy to be kind. Many times it takes courage to do the right thing. Hence the words BE FEARLESS BE KIND. Hasbro and their amazing partners have created tools and resources that parents can use in their journey.

Why Empathy, Why Now?

Studies have shown that teens today are 40% less empathetic than they were thirty years ago, and 62% of Americans say kids are less kind than they were in the past. Is anyone surprised? It’s a devastating trend! Qualities like compassion and empathy are taught. Hasbro wants to be a catalyst for change, to help make it easy for families to nurture a generation of fearless, kind, changemakers.

Hasbro purposes to make the world a better place for children and their families. Through play, kids learn how to interact with others. It’s character building by cooperating, following the rules, being patient, taking turns, being a good teammate and learning how to win and lose. I always say you don’t truly know someone until you’ve played a competitive game with them!

Hasbro is a founding partner of generationOn and has worked with them over the last seven years to help inspire equip and mobilize youth to take action through service. I always think I need to do more, be better in this area and I love the practical help and ideas for service I have found at generationOn.
