A Cruise for my Anniversary

Our Family Vacation to Houston Part 11

Find the beginning here.

Our last event of the day before leaving the Gardens for supper was to take a cruise on their paddle boat.  I joked around that I finally got to go on a cruise for my anniversary!  I have always wanted to go on a cruise– maybe next year!

For supper we did a spontaneous progressive dinner.  We ate at Applebee’s, then drove to another restaurant and ordered dessert.  The girls couldn’t believe we actually just went and got dessert, but it was our anniversary after all!

We got back into the van and set out to find our new hotel.  Either I failed to print a map to it or I just couldn’t find it, but either way I had to call the hotel for directions.  The directions I received were hilarious.  The girl didn’t know the names of any of the streets.  She knew right where we were and said we were very close–thankfully!  She gave me a series of go straight, left at the stop sign, right at the light, straight to the end, until you get to the hotel.  I hung up and laughed hysterically, thinking we would never find it, but we actually drove right to it.  Who needs street names anyway?

The motel was perfect for us.  We were able to park right in front of our door, so even though we got there after dark, unloading the van and getting the kids settled in the room was a cinch.  Everyone went right to sleep, and I enjoyed a few minutes of silence before ending day four.  Our vacation was half over.  It was flying by!

Continue to Part 12.

Hilarious directions! I laughed as I remembered a time two years ago when I was handed a handwritten note of directions on how to get to a location to go fishing from a B&B hostess. #3 on the directions was “Turn right after passing large Oak Tree”. I enjoy reading your adventures and cannot wait to make a family trip to Houston!!!

That sounds like a fun anniversary dinner! I haven’t done a progressive dinner in a while. Maybe I’ll have to try that with my kids. 🙂

If you ever visit New England you will get directions that sound like this: Take a right at the first Dunkin Donuts and a left at the Cumberland Farms then your second left at Dunkin Donuts..but don’t pass the Honey Dew Donuts…LOL

That sounded like a lot of fun on the boat and dinner. I would Love to be able to take my son on one. I have never done a dinner like that but I will have to try it as I think my son would enjoy it. I also do directions like that and its how I remember where things are so its nice to know I am not the only one who does those things.

A real cruise is even better. The Bahamas was AWESOME!!!! Without kids. I highly recommend it. Seriously.
